Only time i saw a tmps light on was when i had a nail in my lr tire. One was at 27 and the others above 30. Idk how it works but it does. And its smart. I cant be the only one in the 3rd gen section with an air compressor and tire gauge? Someone go figure this out so i dont have to

If pressure alone set it off, running 40 in an e ply tire should set it off also. Thats atleast 25% off from recommended psi

You reset it when you change tires which changes the threshold. The standard apparently doesn't require overinflated notification so the Tacoma TPMS may or may not indicate that.

Now that im home and have access to pics id like to rebuttle the race and drift cars on skinny tires. Ps that last one made me LOL. The madbull drift car? Pretty sure drifting is sliding which is not the same as traction but badass 26b tt fd3. Rotorhead for life!

Wrong. I had the light come on when it dropped down to -7 several weeks ago and my pressures were each at 25 universally as I hadn't yet upped it for winter.

If you want more links I can find you more links. I just did a quick google and grabbed one of the first results. BUT, as a general rule of thumb, a narrower tire provides better all-around winter traction than a wider one. As I said above, ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL (rubber compound siping, void-to-tread ratio, etc) a narrower tire is a better all-around option in the winter. There's a reason that wider tires used to be called 'floatation tires' and it's not because they were less likely to float rather than dig in.

Wider tires are also at a disadvantage for slushy conditions, since a longer & narrower contact patch has more contact time to clear the slush/water away. A wider, shorter contact patch has to clear a wider area faster and is more likely not to be able to keep up.

In terms of winter driving & snow traction, your theory of 'wider is better' only really applies to hard-packed snow, such as an unplowed driveway or a parking lot that has been driven over multiple times, where the snow is closer to ice in consistency. For those conditions you want a wider tire with more sipes, so that as many of the biting edges of the tread can touch the snow as possible. But the average road doesn't have that sort of surface, unless you're living on a dirt/back road that the town mostly ignores.

Guess my tpms is broken then. Didnt snap a pic before i left but after driving 20 min they each went up 2 psi. Only wheel highlighted before i left and when i arrived was the one that wasnt close to others.20170105_080420.jpg

It's operating correctly. The 23 is below the low tire threshold so it was probably set with the tires at 29 or so. I'll also bet $100 that if the others were 23, they'd be yellow too.

Dude, you're fucking thick. It's coming on because your single tire that's 23 PSI is below the threshold.

Now reduce all 4 tires to 23 and the light will STILL be on, because they are ALL low.

I run my tires at 34ish Year round, check weekly, Year round. Temps where I live range from high 90* in summer,to 0* or below in winter. Tires wear envenly, traction is fine in winter. I do get wheel spin sometimes, driver error. It's snow and ice , duh.

I've heard that you want to be aired up for ice/snow, because it gives more downward force on a smaller surface area to punch through ice/snow. I'm not advocating for that concept, I just heard it from a dude who lives in Montana. And obviously you want to air down for rock crawling/sand/dirt.

This is what I'm getting, for some reason front right gets pressure faster than the other 3.
Cold tire PSI on my truck is 29 psi with factory Firestone

Well that's something you don't see everyday. Wonder if there's something wrong with that front right sensor.

Yeah I know, but when tires hit 33 psi TPS light turns off and all 4 tires stay at same psi.

Maybe try resetting the tpms system to see if it clears up? Something still seems up. Would think the other sensors should be lit up also and the TPMS system would've had to be set at ~40PSI?

    It's because the offroad(30PSI)uses an ISO-metric with a load rating of 112; the sport(29psi) is a p-metric with a load rating of 110.
They attain the same load rating at different PSI.
