Hey all, my first post here -- SO EXCITED to finally be a Tacoma owner. Bought my Dad's 2007 access cab w/ TRD Off Road package.

My question: I'm interested in adding some Bilstein 5100s (1.75" in front) to level out a bit. Do I need to also buy a new pair of coils? A few things I have read said that the progressive coils included in the TRD OR package do not mix well with the 5100s.

I plan to do a good amount of weekend off roading, but probably nothing too crazy.

If this is the case, anybody have a good recommendation for some new coils?

    Thanks!

I went that route with stock spring. Set height at 1.75". Happy with the result.

man, I searched for EVER trying to figure this out when I got 5100s to raise the front to match when I added a leaf in the rear. I ended up trying a few settings and leaving it at the one I liked best.

I went with .85 setting and it raised the front of my DCSB a little over an inch, which was all I wanted to raise it. I think the common wisdom is not to go over the 1.75 setting with the progressive springs, the more you preload them, the stiffer they get, so if you like the ride now I'd not go too high (or I'd get new coils), if you wish it was a good deal stiffer, try the 1.75

Ride is little stiff @1.75 setting, also I have armor front end.

When I had an off-road I had 5100s at 2.5". It was a stiff ride. Off-roading will be jerky, but it isn't required to replace the springs.

I have that setup, and like the ride. It's firmer than stock, but that's what I wanted.

Ditto for me. If you stay with OEM springs, do swap them as the driver-side springs will sag a tiny bit more due to the added weight on that side.

    Thanks for all the responses!

Anybody know a good place to get some OEM coils?

Keep an eye on the classifieds here. There is usually a set of springs for sale.

I have had 5100's on 2 trucks, one with standard coils and one with off-road coils. The off-road is a bit stiffer, but it's not unbearable by any means. I have been running the 5100's on off road coils for several years, and I don't see or feel the need to change them out.

If you are going to buy new coils anyway I would suggest some better lift coils and set the 5100's at stock ride height.
