I really wish Toyota had thought this one out a little better.

I know we should *always* wear our seat belts but there are situations where you may need to place something heavy on the seat and there is literally no way to turn the seat belt chime off!!

They either A) don't have dogs in Japan, or B) assumed the American stereotype that our dogs always ride in the bed.

edit: or C) it was an American bureaucratic safety add-on that looked good on paper.

    Not an overbrander.
From what I've read, the manual says it's a feature that dealers can change. Some guys on TW have written how to's on doing it yourself too. But then again, there's always that option of putting a dummy clip in the belt receiver.

Without getting beat up by all those that bash on turning off the chime for litigious reasons....your dealer can turn off the chime at no charge. The light stays on, but no annoying beeping.

Just a thought...did you look in the index in the owner's manual to see if it has anything about turning off the chime??

I'll ask them the next time I'm there, I was under the impression that they wouldn't do it.

Wish I could mine came that way, my little guy chills in the front all the time so I can see why it would drive one nuts.

It must be done with the computer hookup I believe, but someone may know the up, down, up, down, A, B, B, A, start sequence if there is one. My dealer had no issue doing it for me. Some will some won't, not sure if they are liable in accordance with different states or not.

I think it's Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start. There used to be a band that played house shows around here by that name. I only remember the code because it was stenciled on the side of their tour van.

Interesting product. The main design flaw however is that it appears you would have to temporarily listen to the seat belt chime every time you pop open a cold one.

Not to jack the thread, but how many people on here remember what that up, up, down, down.... button sequence is for?

I have a Weimaraner and she is the same way as your dog Bannerman, she was never a fan of sticking her head out the window, she wants to be a close as she can get to you.
