The super white has a lot of paint flaws. The doors and body are slightly different. :annoyed:

Paint on mine looks good and I'm pretty keen for details. My only complaint with the paint on this truck is it's as fragile as an eggshell.

Not true, your perspective is that there's a dollar ammount on what's considered acceptable.
    I'm telling you that it's acceptable because it's normal. On 15k Jetta, or on a 150k R8
    They both have it.

I was about to comment the same. If you paint plastics and metals with the same paint it will never look the same. Ditto for two different types of metal.

Your paint is as fragile as an eggshell, and so is a Dana 30. Get it?

The OP just needs to drive down a dirt road behind a gravel truck for a couple of miles. Color match issues resolved.

How do you figure. Upon polishing this paint( I detail cars frequently as a side gig) It's of pretty standard clear coat hardness. Not overly hard like some bmws I've polished. And not overall soft like some of the more exotic cars.

But I will also add, this would personally not be okay with me.

Thank you all for your replies. I am new to this forum and love all the different perspectives.

I just figured, I bought a Quicksand tacoma and want a Quicksand tacoma.

In my years I have had several cars from all sorts of manufacturers. The paint matched on all the parts.

Now that I see that boynoyce has matching paint, I am a little upset at mine.

For 2 weeks I have been looking at it wondering if something was off. It is.

It's not variances in paint batches, or your dealer's fault, or poor QC at the plant... it's painted steel vs painted plastic - as has been said above. That's it.
Come up with a way to have perfectly matched steel and plastic without a massive cost up to the customer, and you win all the money.

Based on what ive seen here and in other threads there are quite a few inconsistencies with the paint on these third gens. Oddly enough that's consistent with the poor quality control we've seen on the third gens

Plastic doesn't take paint well or as consistently as steel. There's also more than one supplier of plastics, and each company may use varying formulas which give a different surface finish.

This is why a lot of plastics are dyed, not painted.
If you're feeling adventurous, get one of those pine tree air fresheners and rub it around on the painted plastic on the interior and see what happens. Hint: your dealer will be able to get you a replacement.

There is some difference in color due to the substrate plastic vs steel, but the bigger issue is the lighting source the paint is reflecting.

Color temperature varies depending on what light source is used. The OP's paint job will have a wider mismatch under fluorescent or mercury vapor or LED lighting than it does in natural sunlight. High pressure sodium lighting makes paint look like shit.

Pull it out into the sun and see how it looks. Paint color temperature is a compromise.

My QS Tacoma paint matches perfectly everywhere, but I would definitely compare it in the natural sunlight first as interior lighting can be varied in its true depiction of color. It's worth contacting the dealer to attempt to get it corrected if it bothers you a lot.
