Yes, Ring Dings came first and hostess messed with the name trying to avoid a lawsuit. Then hostess bought out ring dings and solved that problem...until they sold the company
You know those are old pics from the foil wrapper. And the fact Reggie Jackson, Steve Garvey and Rod Carew are on the BB card...lol just saw that

Ding Dongs are nasty and shouldn't even be considered a food . Even Hostess fruit pies are nasty , ever seen one out of the package for 30 days , it doesn't even breakdown or dissolve

Asheville, NC was my first experience with a salvage food store. Had another recruiter that did most all his grocery shopping there. The FDA sets no regulations on expired food or even putting dates on food except baby formula IIRC. If you get people sick they will come a knocking at your plant door though. So food manufactures put dates on their products and some grocery stores sell expired food at pennies on the dollar to salvage food stores, like where Calvin used to shop. 3 months is nothing for some products I saw him eat, just saying.

I'm going to be trying my hand at making and smoking homemade Canadian bacon and elected to go with #1 pink curing salts, which just came today, instead of #2 curing salts which contains sodium nitrate. Figure get enough sodium nitrate in over the counter foods don't need to add any more of it to my diet. It does help prevent food from spoiling for a very long time though.

I do feel much better now that I've cut most of that stuff out though. I did have a few things over the holidays but can't say I really miss them...except a good chili dog.

I'll have a butcher pig in the freezer this year and I'm not having anything cured....hams, bacon...nothing. So it'll be be interesting. I'm thinking about leaving the bacon whole in case I want to do something different. Usually I'd have all the scraps put into sausage but I'm just going to go with ground.

A week prior to starting terminal leave for my retirement from active duty, I had a young Lieutenant tell me he didn't feel my approach was proper because I hadn't gone thru my Commander before correcting one of his Staff Sergeants on an important matter (long story short). Told him, "Sir, I'm not known for always being proper, but I am known to be effective."

For some reason this made me think of that. :notsure:

... are we back to that bell curve thing?

Yeah, they're pricey as hell ... but you get what you pay for. And ya'll gotta remember, after our Copper River salmon dipnetting trip, we're processing about 200 fish. That equates to a 8 to 12 hour day, during which the sealer runs repeatedly the whole time. A moose takes 2 to 3 days to process, the last day the sealer runs repeatedly the whole day. We are vacuum sealing on a huge scale.

    I like your style.

Word of caution ... You are correct they are very heavy and take up some counter space. My hunting partner has lot of counter space in his old home office from when he used to run a PC business. I bought the machine, it stays at his house. We've discussed mounting it on some kind of wheeled cart to make it easier to move around (we haul it outside when we process fish, and upstairs when we do a moose). It's heavy for one person to move around, and awkward due to size for two to move it. That's why I said it might be overkill for your use ... then again, everytime you pull a freezer burned bird outta the freezer, you might groan too.

Tough call, and pricey too. :sorry: I know I'm not helping here.

Just gave myself a good scare while driving my truck in heavy rain . Went down a steep hill doing 35-40mph that has a quick off camber left hand and right hand corner . Totally forgot about the Detroit locker and let's say it was an interesting moment !!

I would say it was made for your use. If I start seeing moose around California I may get one.

I hate those off camber turns, there are a couple in the perimeter road on the backside of base. Glad you came thru with nothing worse than "interesting" to call it. ;)
