Hey guys I'm deciding on a lift for my 04 xtra cab. Really liking those that have 3 on susp. and 3 on body. Right now I have 2 on the suspension. Looking at getting a 3 inch BL pretty soon and eventually go with bigger coils and add a leafs in the back. What do you guys think?

I said it in another thread today and I'll say it here, friends don't let friends install body lifts. Get a suspension lift and do it properly. Adjustable Bilstein 5100s and an add-a-leaf or two for the rear can be had for relatively cheap and is a much better option.

Body lifts don't really accomplish anything, the frame is still at stock height...the higher the body lift the sillier it looks.

I understand why you all suggest just going with the suspension, but I already have 2in all the way around. I want more than just 2 or 3, but its ridiculous to pay upwards of 2500 for a bigger suspension lift with dif drops that look even stupider on the front of these trucks. Also my truck is basically just a daily, not an off-road machine like you guys build. That's why I've been looking at the BLs. In my opinion, if done right with guards, they look pretty decent. And yea the frame hangs lower but it looks about like a chevy truck's stock frame. That doesn't bother me too much.

I don't think you'll find the encouragement that you're looking for on this forum. Beyond the functional trumps fashionable argument, people really don't like body lifts for all the mechanical faults that are inherent. Drive lines don't like being messed with and body lifts can cause strange problems down the line. 1inch body lift? Prolly get away with it. 3inches? Ooooooh...

Well, body lifts are cheap for a reason. They are cheap.

The $2500+ lifts don't cost that much just to annoy you.

It's because if you want to take a truck, jack it up that high and put tires that weigh twice what OEM tires weigh, and not have the truck fall apart and wear out in 2 years, you're going to have to spend some serious coin.

You asked us what we thought and gave you the pros and cons. You are free to do what you want with that information.

To bad those db lifts are pretty much garbage aswell. I mean $2500 will get you a decent mid travel setup or even used LT or a basic sas. Why people pay so much for stock suspension and no added ground clearance il never understand.

I agree. I don't even like those fabtech type lifts because of the lack of actual performance (travel, ground clearance), but at least they do a decent job of moving suspension pieces around to maintain some semblance of drivetrain geometry.

Total chaos upper a arms and king shocks alone run almost $3k. All Pro sas kits are easily $2500 or $3k, just for the front. To do it "right" with true performance gains, you could easily spend $5k. Don't know about you, but I'm not too keen on buying someone else's "gently used" LT kit...

Or, spend $400 for blocks and a body lift, get the same look, lol.

Ext travel kings and spc uca can cost as low as $1200. And i was thinking more along the lines of using a stock toyota axle and doing a budget sas. People have done for surpringly little amount

Not if all you're looking at is the size of the tires and the size of the belt buckle of the driver.... :D

Thanks for you guys' opinion for sure. If I had the money I would try to go a different route. But as of now and even if I saved from now til the end of my senior year of high school, I'm a junior now, I would still be short of getting something like you all suggest not even counting new tires or wheels. Like I said my truck for now and probably through college will be pretty much a daily and probably even after that as it's just getting broke in at 95k. I was just wanting a little more than what I have without dropping that much money.

I mowed lawns all summer and ended up with King coilovers (used but they were in good shape), over kill Custom built Alcan Springs, billy rear shocks, and a trail gear bumper. It's not a lot but it's a good start. Do it right the first time.

Thank god you're in high school. You're still young enough to un-learn every piece of information that your brain cites to back up goofy opinions like thinking lifted trucks look cool. Spend your money on something worthwhile like drugs, terrorism or new suspension components.

You're in high school. Spend your money on something fun. Either increase the ability of your truck or go spend it on drugs or something. Body lifts are just dumb.
