The heater coil is on the mirror glass assembly and the RAV4 has one just like the Tacoma mirror. Your not just replacing the glass but the complete glass, coil and mounting plate.

ah, ok. Either way it still works.

Just to be clear, this would be the driver's mirror? https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~mirror~outer~lh~87961-42d20.html

and I'm not clear about the Blind Spot Monitoring....does it still work too? Thanks for your help

Will it not work with any convex mirror, or is that the whole point? You only need one or the other?

    I don't think I comprehend what you're asking.
I suppose you can stick a universal convex mirror on top.

    Corrrect.
The BSM mirror doesn't have the convex insert because the amber warning light accomplishes pretty much the same purpose.

These mirrors with the convex insert are for those without the Tech package and the BSM.

For anyone who hasn't used a "blind spot" mirror, the difference is night and day. You very quickly realize that there are areas to the side of your vehicle that you simply cannot see no matter how well adjusted the mirrors are.

Going from one with these convex mirrors to one without, you constantly are paranoid about lane changes.

It also depends on the type of vehicle. Some have crazy bad blind spots that no amount of looking over your shoulder will help. When you're looking over your shoulder, your eyes aren't on the road..

I have the tech package with BSM, so I'm slowly trying to get used to the amber light.. But convex mirrors are a great safety feature. I would be seriously considering this if I could replace them and keep the BSM lights as well.

I've used both over the years. I stand by my question/statement.

Have you personally tried the setup I linked?

If not, give it a try and have a friend walk around your truck. You may be surprised.

Pretty cool to have them integrated into the glass but, for a few bucks, you can stick on convex mirrors in the corner and achieve the same. I think if I broke one I'd replace with these.

GPB, just eliminates the blind spot so you don't have to look over your shoulder.

Here are he ones I have.

That's kind of what I'm getting at. With the side mirrors adjusted as described in the link, outward to minimal overlap with the rear view mirror, there's not really a blind spot. By the time the back of a vehicle gets to the far edge of the side mirror its nose is in direct view as I look at the mirror.

Granted if you have a topper or you're driving a box truck, your rear view mirror field of view is much more limited. I'd say that's not most of us though.

All good points. I'd kindly point out that this Thread was started for those who want to install these mirrors on their TACOs.

So suggesting an alternate solution isn't allowed?

My error, I mistakenly thought TacomaWorld was for sharing information among Tacoma owners. I was unaware that had changed.

Aww, don't go getting sensitive here. Of course it's an open forum. All I KINDLY asked was to let it go. Your point and suggestion was well made. Good grief...

I didn't really see it mentioned here but I also find the blind spot mirrors very helpful with seeing lines for parking spots or curbs.

Really cool idea. I had tow mirrors on my Tundra and I've been missing the convex part. Now only if these were compatible with BSM I'd be all over them

No worries, I'm not upset. It is not my intention to derail and replied to replies or where I was referenced. I'll step back now.

For those who have done this, is the passenger side worth doing? It is already a bit concave, and this little blind spot mirror is small and would be far away. I am actually going to install these on our RAV4. The 2014 RAV4 didn't come with these, and the Tacoma has the Tech package.
