1.5 rear block on rear 5100 bilstein shocks

So couple months ago I upgraded to the 5100 rear bilstein shock .. so I'm thinking getting 1.5 rear block to level out my truck .. will it stretch out my shock or I could run it with no issues ?

Hope you got the longer shock. There will be too much droop for OEM shock. The first step up is for up to 1-inch. You need the 2nd step up - probably #33-230337, of the 5125 series.

I have a 1.5" block with the 5100's. I've had 3 replaced due to leaking shocks. Not sure if it because of shock topping out, but each time Bilstein says that 1.5" lift is fine with the 0-1" shocks. Could just have bad luck with seals going out.

 

5100 is the series #, or model line. That line has lots of specific part #s. Bilstein's application guide calls for #

$91 24-186728 5100 Series Shock Absorber

24-186728 for a lift up to 1 inch. Based on the specs, #24-186971 would be the next step up, probably 1-3 inch lift. Both are 5100's.

Here is an easy test to see if your shock has enough extended travel. Remove the bolt and rubber piece from top of the shock; lift that side from the frame until the tire lifts from the ground; look at the top of the shock. If the tip sticks out the same as before, you are good on extended travel. If the top of the shock has dropped down, you need shocks with longer extended travel.

 

I have the standards with a 1.5" AAL. No issues so far.

 

Have you gone off-roading to where one rear tire is dangling off the ground? That's droop and that's where the extended travel issue will manifest itself. Maybe not the first or second time, but eventually, the droop will damage the shock that does not have the proper extended travel.

 

I understand droop lol. And na I haven't dangled one. You're right though

 

If you never plan on going off-roading, you'd be fine with stock or one step up. However, if you lift the truck by the frame to change a rear flat, that could damage a shock with not enough extended travel.

Edit: to clarify. Pictures are with a 2" aal. Ran a year with a 1 inch block prior. Your stock leafs will droop about an inch further than your shocks from the factory. Don't believe me? Pull your shocks after lifting your truck by the frame. They top out. Which is the same with my billies. The aal didn't change the length of my leafs.
