I was wondering how much it would cost to have someone take my 2wd 2007 Toyota Tacoma and convert it to a 4wd. Or if that's even possible. Thanks

To have someone do it? Plus parts, I'm guessing around $5000, give or give a thousand or two.

You'd probably be better off just selling yours, and buying a 4wd that's equipped for how you want to use it.

Parts cost about $2k assuming you get all used stuff. Labor is probably around $5000.

You need to swap transmissions, install a transfer case, cut and weld a new cross member to support the transmission, install the front carrier, CV axles, hubs, front driveshaft, shorten and rebalance the rear driveshaft, modify the interior for the transfer case shifters, and do some minor wiring.

Sell your truck, buy a TRD OFF-ROAD, and you have a fully capable 4x4 with locker and trouble free!

You might decrease its value by doing the conversion, VIN says 2WD. I wouldn't feel comfortable buying a truck with a 4x4 conversion but that's me.

Maybe. Assuming he sold his truck and put up the other $5k he'd use for the conversion, he would still be looking at buying a 10 year old truck with unknown history.

That's a classic argument but, not always a concern. It was nearly $10k (+tax) upgrade for me to get 4wd with a bunch of stuff I didn't want. I added it for $2k. Many people will say that "you get that money back because Toyota's hold their value". That's only the case if you actually sell the truck at some point and I couldn't afford that high of a payment anyway ($600+; I had nothing to put down on it). I bought the truck with the intentions of keeping it until it died so resale isn't high on my list of concerns. I look at the $2k as an investment; I learned a lot about the truck and got some new tools.
