I cant believe I'm saying this but I'm excited for the cold morning to try out my remote start that I just finished installing. Its going to be great walking out to a warm truck!

Also if anyone is looking for a remote start I have a buddy so who is selling some with installation. He has been installing stereo's and remote starts for something like 15+ years. I've known him around 8 years and hes been doing it for much longer than I've known him. Let me know and I can get a price for install. I had him help me install mine and didnt know he had some until after we finished up installing the one I bought. I honestly dont know if it will be a good deal or not but its worth checking if your interested.

 

I just had a remote start installed on my truck... when its cold out the truck does not seem to turn over long enough to start the truck. If i continue to try it will start on the 3rd or 4th try, but that is shit because i wont always hear it start. Ask your friend if there is a way to make it turn over a little longer if you would please. It gets about 3 turns when starting and thats it... would like it to get 4 or 5 turns on the starter.

 

There should be my JEEP did that and they fixed it and worked great then they messed with it again and it took two tries. Probably still like that but haven't driven it in 8 years

Does the engine shutoff when you open the door though? I hear alot of the remote starts are forced to shut off the engine when the driver opens the door to get in. That would be annoying if the case, but a nice warm cab is nice. Especially like this morning. 26 degrees out.

 

My factory remote start on my F150 will run for 15 minutes and will run even with doors unlocked and open. My wifes T4R factory remote start shuts off as soon as the door opens

 

Or a T4R??? I keep telling you to rep the toyota and the tacoma meetups. Your Ford just throws everything off...

 

No. That would be stupid IMO... It will shut off if i press the gas pedal before i put the key in and turn it to the ON position. Once the key is in the ON position, i press the break put it in gear and go.

However with it being such a new feature i forget to put the key in first sometimes....

 

I had a turbo timer on my wrx, which keeps the engine running for a set amount of time after you take the keys out in order cool down the turbo before shutting it. Once i parked against the curb on a street for a min but the car was still running when I got back in so i just drove off. I hit the intersection and my car had turn slight towards traffic and as i turned the wheel, it locked. Keys were in my pocket as my headed towards oncoming traffic at an intersection, had to dig them out, throw them in the ignition and run away from all the angry people.

 

Yeah I was reading the manual for mine and it had a feature like that for vehicles with turbos. These things are fancy! Haha

 

lol i should add, i was completely on the wrong side of the road by the time i got the car stopped, so i was getting angry honks as i was trying to get my keys out ..

I never did that again, thats for sure.

If you have the push to start in your tacoma the truck will shut off when the door is opened. Toyota doesn't not allow any kind of take over that many other manufacturers do allow. There is no way to bypass this feature on toyota with the push to stary. To me having to start the truck 2 times is way better than getting into a cold truck!
