yes she was we where next to her. and an old troop ship from WW2 USS Gaffery we used that ship as berthing wile we where in dry dock. I remember passing the DD's on the way to our ship. I do remember a DD there because that is what I wanted to be on not a bird farm.
there was a gray jeep that parked on the pier that had a DD painted on the back of it. how can I remember this but not where I put my glasses?

I reenlisted to go to the Coral Sea in Alemada, Ca, detailer told me that she going to make a West Pac and then go into the yards in Bremerton. I loved Puget Sound area and figured it was worth it to go back there. Very few jobs at the time in civ land. Showed up on the Coral Shitter and was told world cruise then yards in Portsmouth, Va. Someone on the Coral Sea stole my gore tex jacket that I got at REI. Totally different world than the tin can Navy. If I would have spent my first 4 years on a bird farm don't think I would have reenlisted to be honest.

I was stationed at Ft. Lewis from June of 82 till December 83. I didn't and don't know much about the Sound (other than the small piece I went fishing from shore on near the base) but I remember Ranier Beer and the commercials.

I used to make runs to Ft. Lewis every couple of months. It was a GSA distribution center and before civilians got to bid on stuff we had first dibs on it. I was always looking for tools for the ship. Everything was in big boxes and mixed up with army sleeping bags etc. on top and tools on the bottom. And you had to take the whole box. I brought back a lot of army field gear in those boxes and it would disappear as soon as it hit the ship. It is flashback Friday! Haven't thought about in decades.

The only thing I wanted when I enlisted was to go on a tin can. no A school, no coast preference, went in as a striker for a better chance.
at the end of boot camp my orders said CV 64 disappointed. probity would have stayed in if I went to a tin can in the Engineering Dept.

Yep. That was at what was called the Can Point. I haven't been to Washington since I left.

Being in Engineering on a tin can was awesome, and sucked at the same time. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything in the world. Never served with a tighter group in my life before or after.

Unfortunately iirc the solution is horrible. She has to lose everything she has before assistance will be provided. No little nest egg for retirement. Then u can haggle. She needs to be just about on the sidewalk before assistance.

LOL yep they will be on both my coffee cups that should be here in a few weeks ;)

I noticed that head compared to the screws. I had to do a witness test for dynamic balancing on the shafts and props before we got out of the yards. They were out of balance and the yard bird said they were close enough. I said bull shit and went and got the CHENG. They were finally balanced and I signed off on them.

Thanks for the support everyone. I'm an only child, so all the great comments make it feel less like a solitary journey.

My mother does have money and a pension, but I'm shocked at how fast the senior living company is grabbing for the money. She signed a contract, so if she goes broke they have to continue providing a home and care. I'm just afraid they may not live up to that promise.
Every single manager I talk to at Brookdale is either gone or moved within 3 months. I'm negotiating the same thing 3-4 times. It's like gambling in Vegas, the house eventually wins. I wish they would just tell me "I'm gone in 2 months, so I'll agree to anything you ask". I'm spending so much time dealing with the money that I generally only have a few hours to be with my mother. This weekend I have to go to her bank in person, move money, figure out which furniture she wants, empty that furniture and then go look for storage space. Somewhere in there I can spend time with her. Oh yeah, and it's an hour drive one-way to Sun City. If my mother would have been nicer to my wife, I could have some additional help. But noooo, mother didn't want to be the nice mother-in-law.
I don't really need a lawyer, more like an advocate. Someone who could advise me on how to deal with Brookdale.

EDIT - Well forget the bank. They aren't open on weekends. Lovely.

One time I was fire watch when a yard welder was welding the bottom of the hull. he was having a bad night welding lead didn't work, dropped all his rods. just PO he said f it didn't care. I said Bull sh%t in 5 months you'll be gone and i'll be here in the middle of the ocean with your sh$t welds.
he didn't say much after that. we never work together again. but some night at sea I would wonder about them.

What Mike says is true, depends on the State but it does all boil down to the same thing. What ever you have worked for your whole life will be gone one way or another then the State will step in. Up to a point. Watched my grandmother go through it in NY State. And now my mother. Her and Dad never would take a loan out for anything and lived pretty frugal by most standards. And now it is being striped away fast. She is upset because she wants to be able to leave us kids something, we have all told her don't worry about take care of yourself first.

George I have 3 sisters that I was able to share the troubles with it would be hard if it was just me. I don't envy you that situation either. I wish you and your mother the best and yes you do need an advocate IMO. Not sure what to do on that one though. A lawyer in theory would do exactly that, however not sure I would go there either.
