Was doing some reading up and a separate antenna on the truck would be something I'd look at installing (if it's necessary like I had read it was very useful for CB range). Good to know about HAM vs CB since I didn't know HAM existed. I may start small on that and if I find I'm utilizing much more and need more capability like GPS etc then I can trade up.

I've spent so much time in vehicle with huge blind spots that I wouldn't care. Makes you stronger.

But I do <3 my 2nd gen backup camera. Indispensable for urban parking in a DCLB. The equivalent of astrolube.

Only talking about Ham. Nobody here really cares about CB because it's been consistently unreliable in the field. It's pretty amazing that a $30 magnetic mount antenna and a $29 dollar Baofeng can beat a CB in range. But then once you understand how radiowave propagation works through trees and junk, it makes a little more sense. I mean, still Ham isn't a silver bullet, but it gets rid of a lot of the bullsh*t we have to deal with making CB work.

What is BSM support? is it just having the sonar sensors installed? sounds like you could use any bumper, drill a hole, tack a mount on, and beer.

That's useful, but some of the more advanced ham units have dual receive/dual transmit. So you can do something called Crossband transmit. Asshole on the trail sends a transmission to 146.460, your radio receives it, rebroadcasts it to another frequency of your choosing which your hand held is on like 5 miles down a ravine. When you transmit on another frequency of your choosing, your mobile radio in the truck will rebroadcast on 146.460 at the top of a ridge back to said asshole.

It's useful if, for example, you're doing recovery, but you want to send updates back without having to cease operations and run back to your vehicle.

Or cooking dinner and telling everyone "it's gonna be done in 10 minutes, if nobody's here, i'm gonna eat it all"

Oh, and if your handheld is in your butt pocket or mounted to your rear end, you can now talk out your ass.

For the HAM. Smallest HAM antenna is about 19". It's a 1/4 wave antenna for 2m. Next size up is 5/8 wave about the 3' range for 2m.

We are currently the only company in the industry that offers a rear plate bumper system that allows full function of the BSM system.

Yes you can order the BSM support bumper with full swing out options just like the Hi-Clearance model.
