    Safelite just did the replacement.

The glass they used is part # FW04108 GTYOEM
Looks the same as OEM, has a GoPro mount but doesn't have the GoPro emblem.

    The glass is fine.

    Safelite is not fine.

He broke 3 cowl clips. The clips are built into the cowl, so im working on getting the whole thing replaced. $332 online from toyota or $442 from the dealer.

To make things better, i found the broken clips myself. The installer did not tell me a thing.

    I am not happy.

Just got off the phone with them and theyre going to send me a new cowl. they wanted to install it for me. Theyre not touching my damn truck.

Yeah man I expressed that to the safelite guys.

They ordered a new cowl, it's actually $575 from the dealer.

I just don't understand, at least tell me you broke it.

Got a rock chip... Got it "repaired"... Was good for a week, and a crack started to "run"... They "patch" it again but I have a feeling it will keep running and will have to replace it... Seems the norm (windshields seem softer nowadays) with every single new car I've had. Maybe to make it "safer" so it shatters on impact vs bigger chucks of glass? *shrugs*

Thank you @COdogman will def look into this when I replace mine.

safelite is fine. the installer is not.

just had Safelite replace the windshield on my wife's Avalon after someone tried to put their foot through it. so far, so good. even better was that i made an error when telling them which model she has (i wasn't aware that it had a rain sensor). so Safelite guy gets here, and tells me my mistake. Comes back a few hours later with the correct windshield, then manages to knock 15% off the bill, because Safelite didn't call and confirm the correct windshield (they would've called had it not been a holiday).

Yeah I agree safelite is ok. I'm happy with how it looks. And customer service was great taking care of the part he broke.

But I won't use them again.

Happened to my '15 Taco, '16 Tundra and now '17 Taco... had some good snow the past week and they sanded the roads. Well the snow is melted and now we have a big windstorm, I went past one section that was blowing sand like crazy. After just 10 seconds of sand exposure there are now dozens of pits in my windshield. Their windshields are just too soft. Didn't have any cracks in the others, but pitted up, absolutely.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Wow this ridiculous thread is still getting posts...

So kids, let's go back to our grade 1 science: remember soft things don't crack or chip they bend/flex. HARD things (like... oh... diamond) is extremely brittle. Brittle will chip/crack/break/etc.

    :frusty: stupid thread.

So it's easier to scratch diamond than plastic? Is what you said since plastic will only bend and flex.

And if you don't like this thread, quit your bitching and don't click on it

So 33 of the 84 have had at least 1 crack in their windshield.

    Or roughly 40%.

    Nice.

    all tore up already
    So this just happened:20170209_164427.jpg
Granted its only 14 degrees out and i had the heater full blast but this is a truck and it shouldnt happen that easy. Nothing came in contact with the windshield. It happened when driving out of deep powder onto pavement the truck bounced a couple times as it gained traction and that was enough to put a nice crack in it.

There is absolutely NO excuse for cold weather cracking an OEM windshield. Good job Toyota.

I had to have my windshield replaced on my old 2000 because it got hit with a big rock right in my line of sight. My old 08 and my 15 have been hit many times with cinders, salt, sand and were exploded to extreme hot and cold and never cracked.

Interesting, doing heavy searches on this now and it seems to be pretty sure, a thing. Just driving my 17 Taco in California rain today and a hairline crack like that one above me just popped out of now where! Jesus my truck has barely 3k miles... never seen this ever! Why Toyota!

My 17 Mazda CX3 has almost 14k miles. Driven everywhere with sand and rocks hitting it on the highway. No issues, clear and clean. Double checking my Tacos front windshield I start to see the pits and another small crack start to form. Sigh...
