No dashcam video, but this morning I witnessed the most insane, arrogant, dangerous move I've ever seen in 30 year of driving. I was first in line at a red light, poised to cross a 6 lane road. I was in the middle of three lanes... the one to the left was for left turns, mine was for going straight and the right lane was for right turns. The light turns green and I start to go. About 1/4 of the way across the 6 lanes I'm cut off by a Tahoe that raced up FROM MY RIGHT, zipped in front of me and made a LEFT turn! And to do it he had to tear across a crosswalk that he wouldn't have been able to see having been behind me on my right. Thank heavens there were no pedestrians in the crosswalk. And this was right next to the metro (subway) station at 8AM... people walking everywhere.

    Boggles my mind.

Yep. If I had a dash cam for my accident, it would've saved me a TON of hassle. I got wrongfully ticketed (which I appealed and won). Insurance found me not at fault, but couldn't win with opposing insurance company even after going into arbitration. But my rates didn't go up or anything. Sounds like I came out good right? Wrong. 2 years later and now I'm getting sued by the other guy for a supposed injury claim. Which is total and utter bullshit because he was basically nudged. Really stressing. Can't Fucking believe it. It was the other guys fault and he is doing everything he can to take advantage of it all. I feel like insurance will take care of it all, because there's no way in hell he Could've claimed injuries worth more than 30k, which is what should be covered.
But still.. If I had video proof, it would have eliminated all of this bullshit. I haven't been served yet. But insurance says they've been trying since August.

Thanks. Yeah I really don't know what to expect. Never really been to court or anything before. Except with that initial ticket I got. The insurance appointed law office left me a voicemail. Need to call them. But I feel like it's gonna be the same process all over where I have to present my case and statement for this new lawsuit. Another drawn out process. After the initial process for the wreck lasted like a year, I'm not looking forward to this one even if I'm fairly optimistic about the results.

The point is, EVERYONE should have a dash cam. Even if you think you'll never need one. I will never be without one from now on. It could save you lots of hassle. And time. And stress. And money.

Make absolutely sure you know who that law office is representing. My guess is their true client is the insurance company. For so long as your interests align you're probably good, but as soon as they diverge remember who they're working for... Once you've had a good talk with them it may be worth consulting with an attorney on your own.

Idk. There's lots. You could go for an expensive one. But remember, it's only there to prove your innocence. But don't cheap out either. You don't want it to fail to record when you need it most.. I got the ausdom a261 from gearbest.

Pretty happy with it. I'd like to have got a dual front and rear setup tho.

How much you want to spend? Is parking mode important?

Top of the line would be Thinkware F770 or Blackview DR650GW-2ch

As @NightProwler mentions, don't cheap out so much it doesn't do the job.

Check out @USDashCamera's signature for some nicely done reviews.

This site is great! They have a lot of choices and a lot of video reviews, samples and comparisons for their cameras. I want to get a dual channel one (front and rear) and am looking at this one.

Relatively minor dumbass, but worth playing with iMovie a bit to merge front/rear camera clips into a PiP video. :D
