Got reply. The Service manager wants me to bring it in so he can see it in person.

I'll have to bring it in next week.

It seems the more you started to read how some others didn't like it, you started liking it less. Don't get your hopes up on getting anything done and stop reading to much into the negatives here.

MY '14 SSM bed was a whole different shade then the rest of the truck. Nothing I did was going to get something done about it. MY '16 SSM bed matches pretty well, except for the plastic's next to the steel, like yours. I consider it normal.

Now, a good body guy can get it to match better then a factory paint job if they are patient and good at what they do. But factory paint is done by robots and you get what you get, as long as it passes specs.

This is true, nothing may get done. And plastics vary in how they wear paint, panels painted at different stages, paint blends vary ever so slightly that makes a hue change when it dries. It can't hurt to ask about it, but if nothing gets done, it really isn't something that will affect drive ability or performance.

As mentioned by a couple others, you often see a difference in color between plastic and metal parts. It will be more noticeable or less noticeable depending on the lighting.

I had a 2006 Nissan frontier in the past and the color difference on the front plastic vs. the metal fenders were (and still are) extremely noticeable.

In the right lighting, I think it is impossible not to notice some difference between the color of the plastic parts vs. the color of the metal parts. But, I'm happy with the quality of the paint match on my Tacoma, especially compared to Frontiers.

The only shot I could find of my '14 taken when I was trying to sell it. Bugged the crap out of me every time I looked at it.

Well its never going to look right now no matter how many times it's repainted or what light you're viewing it. You've convinced yourself it's unacceptable.

Here's mine, is it a mismatched mess like yours? I can't tell and really wouldn't care if it is or isnt.20161225_105353.jpg

I'd have to say that yours looks just like OP'S. I don't think either of them look bad though!

It's likely due to the angle of the grill surround, how the light hits it, how it photograghs on a particular camera and paint contrast on metal and plastic parts.

It seems my QS looks like a different color everytime I see it, that's not a bad thing to me.

Here's another pic, same surround, same camera and now it looks like a perfect match

Mine has a slight color shift and for me that's expected. You can't tell what the real color is on Quicksand anyway as it really casts a different color depending what light or color is being cast off it. It runs from light sand color to dark clay. I like the color under florescent light the best. Mine even has a little different color depending whether your looking at paint or at paint through the clear film paint protector.
