Let me rephrase, paint mismatch should be no worse than factory. :p

I think depending on the severity of the disbond, the body shop technician may be concerned with causing dimples in the outer hood skin. So it is a matter of chosing the lesser of two evils.

Factory painted hood may not match but if body shop does a crap job and over sprays then you're screwed too. Hate to take a $40k new truck and have to have a body shop start spraying paint on it. Unacceptable really.

That's what I'm worried about... Hoping the new hood matches everything else. Hate the idea of having my brand new truck resprayed because of this tiny issue.

Dealership was scared to attempt a repair on mine. They decided to order a new one. Been waiting 2 months now.

What, then the off road folks can't complain about the fake useless hood skewp on the sports.

Mind that with most vehicles there is some hood movement when driving, I feel that the scoop hood doesn't move hardly at all.

I think a "functioning" scoop would probably mess stuff up. I saw seatbelt mike saying some where that it would mess up the air flow under the hood.

Can you send me a picture of the adhesive fix and the printed receipt? Starting to think that I really don't want a new hood...

^I think this question was directed toward @Sndtrper? But just looking at it, you would need an open "cold"-air intake like the K&N:

Ended up getting new adhesive applied by Toyota contracted body shop. The assholes used the wrong type of adhesive which cussed my hood to dimple and dent in three areas. Looks like I have to get a new hood now. Think corporate can help me out?

Easy fix, get a latex caulk that turns clear and caulk all the spaces between under side reinforcement bars and the hood.

The paint mismatch on any metallic paint is very common and not so much an issue with paint as it is how the paint is applied. The metal flakes will lay down in different positions depending on the position the panel when painted due to gravity. The position of the gun when sprayed will also cause this. Lastly, the body panels are not perfectly flat. The panels all have a slightly concaved or convex shape. This will cause the light to reflect differently off the metal flakes across the surface of the panel. All of this creates an illusion of different shades of color.

With non-metallic colors, this can still occur but is much, much less noticeable.

I caulked the gap between braces and hood with latex caulk that dried clear. Cost $2 and about 30 mins of my time. Stopped about 90% of hood vibrations. To get all the vibrations out the would take making the hood out of thicker metal. One dealer tried to tell me the bug deflector I put on was causing the vibration. Guess he failed science in school.

I am surprised there are not more options for hood replacement. With the weight we add in armor, I would think you would want to get some back. Our hood is a beast of an anchor.
