She may not look like much, but she sure as hell was a trooper. Even through the oil leaks and clear coat failure, she never let me down. I put over 215,000 miles on the green machine without a single issue. Sadly, her demise came rather soon. I was waiting in the turning lane when out of no where a guy rear ended me. I'm guessing he was going 50+ mph. The impact was strong enough to sheer the bolts holding the seats down. As a result, I was laying in the backseat unsure as to where I was after the impact. I didn't even realize someone had hit me. When I looked up, I was pushed into the car waiting in front of me. Luckily, no one was seriously injured. After all, cars can be replaced, people can't. I'm very impressed with Toyota's safety measures. The SUV held up well from such an impact. I just question as to why the airbags didn't deploy? IMG_4915.jpg

Airbag sensor is in front bumper, probably for the best that it didn't deploy as you were rear ended.

Although, seeing as you got pushed into the car in front of you that does seem a bit strange.

I'm just surprised it didn't go off considering I hit the car in front of me pretty hard. It was enough to rip the fender as seen in the pictures.

Yeah, that is something. Did you take a hit to the head or were you just pinned into the back of the seat? If you escaped without head knee or neck pain you lucked out!

Yeah, I was lucky to have no back pain or anything. I'm not sure if I hit my head or not. Everything happened so fast. I was more disoriented than anything afterwards.

Wow, I had the same 4runner, is that a 96 or 97? Glad you're ok hope you're not too sore tomorrow.

Air bags probably didn't deploy because it wasn't a direct front collision. I believe airbags are pretty good at not deploying unnecessarily because they are expensive to repair.

I agree with roadking. My parents were rearended felt OK but the next day felt really bad. Lawyer said it always good to go to ER after a major accident even if you feel OK. It's good insurance. If you ended up back and didn't know what happened, thats signs of possible injury

A lot more goes into the mix when determining if the air bags go off or not. If they go off during the wrong time it could cause you more personal damage than if it didn't.

Sorry to hear that. My last car was recently totaled and its tough to see them go but at least they died protecting us which is the most honorable way to go. Do like I did and go get yourself a nice new truck! Glad you are alright

At least you ok. Maybe. Ar has to be moving at certain speed for bags to go off. Some airbags are 2 stage for low and high speed I think(some hondas at least). Maybe couse u got pushed from back and sensors sence only forward rapid deceleration?
