    Greetings Tacoma World forums,

A little bit over a year ago I was one of the first people down here in Mexico to get there hands on a 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport. Around a month after driving the truck I received a check engine light and the truck shut off completely. I was able to start it back up only to have it shut off after a few seconds. My local Toyota Dealer (Which is completely unprofessional and underfunded) took around 2 months to get the truck to work "properly" once again. I was told it had a faulty sensor. A short week later tah-dah the issue returned. This time 4 months went past and I still had hardly driven my truck and was stuck driving a Prius the dealership lent me when I threatened to sue them. Once again when they finally got it running again they swore to me if the issue wasn't fixed they would just give me a new 2017 since those were about to come off the line. Well they're over confidence got me a new truck. The 2016 once again kept shutting down and 3 months later I got my hands on the 2017 in which they even included a roof rack, tonneau cover, and side steps for free. They eventually told me that the 2016 had something wrong with the catalytic converter and I want to find out if anyone else has experienced anything similar? I'm no mechanic and for all I know they're final conclusion might be wrong also but I'm curious. How would you have handled this?

Crankshaft position sensor maybe? Sounds awfully familiar. Don't hold me to it though.

Obviously not as well as you have. You got a new truck free of charge!

Hope the 2017 serves you much better than the 2016 did.

Well yeah but it was not fun being stuck with a Prius for months. Just so you know I also had to keep making my monthly payments even when the truck was at the dealer. I was literally paying for a Tacoma while driving a Prius.

That sucks that you were making payments for a truck and driving a prius, but you now have a 2017 with power rear sliding window, and some extras goodies, so myself, I would consider that a wash. Oh yea, the tailgate key fiasco is now in your favor with the 2017, so, I would be happy.

Yes, the crankshaft position sensor is known to be flaky in the 16s and often caused the catalytic converter to crap out too. Glad you got a new truck, and hopefully won't have any more issues.
