I was just up in Idyllwild for NYE and it snowed and we had a fun time exploring trails. We rented MSR snow shoes and they did great. An employee at the local outdoor shop said that in 2016, 3,200 people attempted to thru-hike the PCT. When i hiked it in 2003, there was maybe 500 thru hikers. Wow, times have changed. Anyway, the food in our cooler we brought to the cabin got soggy, and i just have a cheapo coleman so i got a few ideas off youtube and constructed my own dry shelf out of a cutting board. Hopefully somebody benefits from this idea. Happy 2017!IMG_7008.jpg
The basket rests on rails(slices of cutting board). Used stainless screws and silicone.

I need to make my own divider for my roto cooler, but I probably need something that is ~ 1/8".

    Looks good though!

I built a divider using a cheap cutting board from Big Lots. made a template using cardboard and cut it out.

Cost me like $8 or so.

Amazon has this black abs plastic that is super cheap and if you heat it with a torch you can bend it into whatever you would like, perfect for this application.

oh had no clue, but yeah that stuff. I liked working with it quite a bit. The "Kydex" seems to be more expensive, is it just a name brand of abs stuff?

That's excellent! I never thought of using those plastic cutting boards as material to fabricate a replacement food tray for my Coleman steel sided cooler! My old plastic tray is so cracked that it falls down into the ice/water. I could make a lip on the tray that would rest on the ridges inside of my cooler to hold it up. Thanks for the idea!

For a cooler, I think it would be too flimsy unless it was a very small cooler that you were working with. My cooler tray has to span 14", and even Kydex would probably flex too much at that length to hold its rigidity. But I have sheets and sheets of various Kydex from sheath building and might work with a piece as a sample. Easy to rivet together, too.

it seems pretty rigid once you bend it, same principle as sheet* metal, but yeah I could see that.

Obviously it would depend on thickness. I have some large sheets of .125 (1/8) that would easily span most any cooler with little or no flex even with no bends.
