So my computer has slowed down alot. It has a 2.0 ghz processor with 3gb of ram. My router is up stairs and going through a couple walls but signal is full strength. My prblem is it will lock up while the internet, and slow to load pages sometimes. I thought it was due to the distance from the router but the locking up and having to run task manager just to get the screen to work is not right for this computer. Do I have a virus or do I need to delete crap from the memory.

Also within my c drive is the windows.old which was placed there after I rebooted my computer with the factory cd. Can I delete it all, isnt it just the old back up files.

What operating system are you using?
You most likely do not have a virus, unless your hitting porn sites!
You should be fine based on what you said so my guess is that you have too much loading at startup.
Delete any unnecessary desktop icons (you can reach them from start menu anyway)
they load into ram along with background images. Windows loads into ram, AV program and instant message loads up there too!
But one biggy is IE. As you surf it caches pages into ram but does not always remove it unless you reboot. So the longer that your online, the slower your connection or system seems to be because there is less and less available RAM.
Your puter then starts swapping data to the harddrive to make room (hard drive thrashing)

I would not delete any files unless you absolutely need the space.

That is most likely your problem.. 6 gb of free space is not enough. You can problably safely deleted that windows.old file and defrag your drive. I am not a fan of Vista either.

FYI, I using windows 7 64-bit. 10 gb ram 300 gb HDD and a 3.5 ghz duo core processor.

You can safely delete all ".old" and ".tmp" files. I do it all the time. :)
The other thing you might try is getting "ccleaner." It's a great disk cleaning program for FREE. Go to piriform.com to download it.

Good suggestion , I have been using CCleaber for years with no issues.
One of the best free programs out there.
