aFe intake with scoop installed

Got mine for $350 from autoanything. Got the scoop for $117 from aFe. Just chat with custom service on autoanything, tell them you can get the OEM Toyota TRD Pro Intake for $350, and you didn't want to spend more than that, that's what I did, and they said they would do it for $350.

 

Nope not yet. TBS is next tho.

Genius tip, thank you sir! Just did the same thing and mine ships out to me tomorrow. The gentleman I spoke to said the best he could do was $380, but that still beats the hell out of their asking price on the product page.

 

Some cars come stock with a ram air intake with no pre filter.

Can confirm:
My car came stick with a fam air intake and no pre filter.

 

True. I only say this because I saw on the volant site somewhere that they recommend it when running the scoop. When I installed my volant with the scoop I opted to put a pre-filter on also. I looked in the box after driving while it snowed, and there was ice built up in the bottom.

 

I looked at the dyno chart on aFe site. They claim 39% more airflow which I can believe. They also claim +17hp and +19 torque.
If you look at the details of the dyno readings, the highers numbers they got with the filter, the outside temp was 20* lower than when they tested with OE filter. That makes it suspicious to me. I don't think actual gains are that high.

 

Yeah I really doubt you'll get 19 lbs torque from this.

I always find it funny when marketing gets involved with silly HP/TQ's.

 

Dynos from manufacturers are bullshit. You can set up so many variables to make it gain horsepower or just straight lie and make up dyno plots.

Like I've said many times in this forum, I'd want to see back to back dyno runs with a before and after intake install from a member to see how much power any said intake makes.

In my previous vehicle I've ran the dyno several times to get a base line reading and after several modifications to see how much power I gained. Not just "oh it feels faster" or "this is how much power they said it would make!"

 

It's obviously not a Tacoma but I have seen these done on multiple vehicles and they always seem to meet or exceed what the CAI manufacturer claims.

Any warranty issues with Toyota after installing the afe kit?

 

I have one installed on my truck. With the manual, I can drive below 2300 rpm thus improving mpg from 16 in the cold to 18.5.

When I drove to the mountains in the past I had to keep it above 2000rpm for power, but now it drives much better below 2k without constantly shifting.

 

Just remove it before service.
