Now that's sick. I ran the Mojave Road with the film crew of Overlanding USA (kinda. We were on different paces but camped with them one night) and I was talking to Ruston (main guy) and he mentioned that his drone will return to the spot it took off from if signal is lost from the controller. He also mentioned his girl drives the rig when he's operating the drone for those trail shots). That's dope if there's drones that will follow you. I'd be more interested in that one if I was gonna get into it. Buy once, cry once as they say, right? Anyway, here's their part one from Veterans Day weekend on the Mojave.

That makes me want to go on the Mojave trail even more now. and I think those drones are about 2-3k which is crazy.

Too high a price for me. I'm running the trail again in March with them true if you want in. Room for 2 or 3 more rigs max right now. Ruston promised to get my right side. My good side. Lol

I don't know about other drones but specifically the Phantoms have a gps built into them so if they lose connection or when the battery hits a certain point they will automatically come back to it's original launching position. Prices vary from around 1k to who knows but some of them can carry DSLR cameras and other large cameras (compared to a gopro).
A buddy of mine & his technical group at his university are currently working on building a drone that can go over 80 mph while holding large weight over a long period of time. Can't wait for them to finish so I can get my hands on one :D

Those are already available. I see the videos all the time of drones well ahead of trophy trucks in the desert going 70+. Also, get your priorities right, brother. Build your truck before the cosmetics and filming accessories. Dont be the guy with all the lights but no locker. Respek, brotha.
