I just got my car back from the body shop last week, and noticed there is a constant beeping sound that keeps going while my driver's side door is open. this happens if the key is in the ignition or not, but when i turn it to the start position, the beeping sound lasts for a couple seconds then stops. not sure if my truck was always like that, but i am only noticing that constant beeping sound now.

Also, im not sure if this is related, but my keyless entry fob does not lock/unlock. It was working before i took it to the shop. It has a new battery and i even tried the 2nd keyless fob that came with the truck that i never used before, still nothing. So i tested the panic alarm on both fobs, and that works like a charm.

I know i could probably just take it back to the shop and have them fix it, but i really dont want to spend "hours" at the shop waiting for them to fix this if its something simple and i can just do on my own.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Sounds like something is amiss with you wiring.

one more thing, the beeping sound only happens when the driver's side door is open. it doesn't beep if any of the other doors are left open. It seems like the truck thinks the key is in the ignition when the door is open when in fact the key isn't even in the ignition.

Just asking a stupid question here, but does it do it when your lights are on? Or does it matter?

it beeps with the lights on or off. i dont know if this is totally related, but i also replaced my car battery today. Now that i think of it, it didnt do this with the factory battery before it died. I replaced it with an everstart maxx 24F from walmart. I wonder if it blown a couple fuses???

I also have an aftermarket viper alarm that locks/unlocks/remote start that has been installed for three years. Both viper and factory fobs worked fine before going into the shop and before replacing the battery...

Take it back and tell them to fix it. I wouldn't want to try to find/fix someone else's screw-up.

could it be something that has been turned off(like the option for seat belt chime) and once the battery was disconnected it was reset?

Do you guys think something could be wrong with the ignition? im thinking the truck thinks the key is still in the ignition which is causing the constant beeping sound, therefore making my factory keyless entry fob not to work preventing the truck to not lock while the key is in the ignition...

possibly. What did the body shop do?

Could it be a wiring issue? I've heard of grounding problems making things act really wierd.

Do you have a remote start? Some of the immobilizer bypasses keep a key in the vehicle.

Otherwise sounds to me like something is wrong in the ignition/immobilizer chip, and yeah, it thinks theres a key in it at all times. Try disconnecting the battery thus resetting the truck.

Sounds like the part of the ignition cylinder that detects the key is stuck. Keyless entry fob doesn't work with key in the ignition.

Not sure where to direct you to for more info. I'd need a service manual to go any further.

Disconnecting the battery worked! I re-connected it and now its back to normal. No constant beeping and factory key fob works. Thanks Brian.

But now my remote start doesnt work. When i press the start button on the viper alarm, the truck kicks, but does turn over/start. It does this three times then remote start command just disables. I may have to re-sync the key immobilizer with my remote, but i totally forgot what the installer did when he first installed it on my truck 3 yrs ago. Oh well...

Thanks for helping me out guys.

I'm going to try this. Mine will beep once in a while and when it does, the key FOB won't lock the door.

Funny you should ask, I just did that last week and figured the problem. I'm not tiring the truck 100% off when I take the key out. Thanks!
