Yeah, except that wasn't true when I was buying. Similarly configured trucks for what I was looking at had the Canyon a couple grand less at MSRP.

Not sure what to think about that article. But it did lead me to this..

    https://www.edmunds.com/tco.html

I like that is uses actual number break downs. According to those charts there is a huge difference. Although i think the twins values on there is a little off.

What I tend to look at, is the gen 1 colorados. Horrible trucks yes, but they have held thier value. Not quite tacoma level. But enough to say the new twins will do well.

Mpg is my guess. It's the same reason toyota didn't put the 4.0 or updated 4.0 in the new tacoma.

My 07 was stolen about 6 months ago and toyed with this issue myself. I like my new 17, just wish they would have some stuff alone on the redesign. Center console is a bit bulky and there was no need to move the e brake from the floor to the center console. It also seem to depend on where the truck your purchasing was assembled. Mine was done in Baja and they have a real good reputation down there. The OR model built in Texas seems to have some issues. For me it was a work decision, I could have bought down a few models like a 14, or 15 used, but they were practically the same price as the 17 I got. I am happy with my decision of the tacoma. I have 5400 miles on her and have had no issues. It has it quirks, but don't all vehicles.

I'm almost 50. I own a Taco and a long lineage of German and Japanese cars.

But there is no better truck/tow vehicle than the Duramax/Allison Silverado. 200k with just basic maintenance towing 10k lbs with the cruise on and never worrying if it would start, go or stop. I commuted in it, took it on family ski trips with valet parking, pulled the double stacker hauler on weekends, overloaded it 1000x getting firewood, moving 48' 3 axle trailers around for friends... never even a small problem. It was a better car and truck than most cars will ever be. It just worked and worked and worked. The big three truck market is safe until someone in japan figures out how to make something bigger than a half ton truck you can tow a double stacker trailer through a hurricane with and not spill your coffee or notice the wind much. An HD Silverado is a goddamned monster. There is a reason you see a million of them on the road... they are doing something right.

That was a Vince Lombardi-esque pitch for the duramax/allison Silverado combo. Do you really want to see my chub?

That's just diesel. Seriously doesn't matter what make diesel engines are so much better.
My uncle had the 3500 Denali diesel. Great truck until he traded it. But when it's gas it's a completely different story

Just curious, how did you come to the conclusion that the Mexican made Tacoma's are having less issues than the Texas ones?

I didn't even give a thought to the gm twins, but that is because I wanted a manual transmission. From the complaints and issues that I have personally heard about, its been mostly issues coming from the guys with automatics. My 2016 is now at 10.3k miles and the only issue I've had was the audio system hitting a corrupt file on my USB music source. Oh and the oil filter is a bit of a pain in the ass, but that's trivial.

Like I said... Gm didn't even get a chance with me because I am a die hard manual guy.

Technically I'm a millennial, but I have been trying to figure out how to disown those pampered little snowflakes....
