This is not meant as a discouragement to lifting your vehicle. Please note: this is just to inform you.

If you are not willing to spend thousands of dollars, don't mess with your suspension's ride height.

Here is the scoop. If you change your ride height, you need to fix all of the suspension and driveline geometry you just threw out of whack. Non-negotiable.

Let's start with the front... Raising the front requires you to correct the roll center, camber gain, bump steer, Ackerman steering, and then an front end alignment. The first 4 cost a lot of money. Don't forget: if you have a 4wd, then you need to correct the driveline geometry you just messed up. Again, money.

Now for the rear... Raising the rear cause less trouble than the front, but you need to be diligent none the less. The most important thing you need to correct is driveline geometry. With a 2 piece driveshaft, there are a lot of angles to be mindful off. These must be corrected when lifting a vehicle. Roll center needs to be considered as well, but this is very minor. Last, a front end alignment to correct the faster you just through out. Finally, you need to test for vibrations in the driveline and correct as needed.

Failing to correct the geometry after a lift results in a realization that you paid money to make your vehicle worse. Though, to be fair, it may look a little nicer.

then 3/4 of Tacomaworld has missed the memo. Virtually the entirety of this thread here, most of the entire suspension sub-board and 7/10th's of the "build threads" are POS spacer lifts, "leveling kits" (whatever that means?) and disaster ridden spring/coil lifts on mismatched shocks, combo spring and spacer lifts, or half assed, no name suspension company lifts with body chops. There really is no other "Online Vehicle tuning community" like Tacomaworld in this regard, that takes factory trucks that are actually REALLY REALLY well equipped (3rd gen TRD offroad' specifically) drive them straight off the lot and then immediately destroy them with "budget" suspension buys or un-researched JUNK that perpetuates the same questions, the same threads and the same problems and then destroys your brand new $40k truck.

Long story short, you shouldn't buy a lift because "you really like the look of it". A lift is inherently a performance piece, whether you bought it to make the truck look cooler or for off-road racing. 100% of the time A suspension lift GREATLY effects the performance of you vehicle at a technical level, and will necessitate a series of other performance-category parts to even "make it work": Upper control arms, shocks, coils, brake lines, rear leafs, various bushings, u-bolts, in worst case scenarios body modification, installation, alignment, etc.. the list goes on. These are things you really, REALLY, have to take a pro-active role in learning about before you mod your extremely expensive truck. If you don't, you will seriously damage your vehicle at worst, and at best you will be in a very $$$expensive loop of trips to Performance-truck shops to pay builders to fix and re-fix mistakes in a seemingly never ending cycle. Also some of these actions may void parts of your warranty.

Long story short, if youre lifting the truck "for the look of it", don't do it. full stop. OR buy the FOX, ICON or KING kit this truck deserves, and nothing less

It's funny how on TW if you're not spending thousands on a 2" lift, you won't get the nod from the veterans. To each his own right. That's like criticizing someone for chocking the chicken with the left hand vs the right hand.

Well shit, I'd like to think I did a halfway decent setup but in all reality i'm not too on the up-and-up with what exactly needs to be done

You're not being criticized for the amount of money you are spending, but rather the willful ignorance in believing that all it costs to lift a Tacoma is $600 in springs or some junk spacer kit. You have to make a conscious choice to actually believe that you can "lift" a $40k truck for $500 and that this will somehow not only perform well but ALSO have no quality consequences on your truck.

the God's honest truth is, no matter what you hear, read or see on this forum, unless you do the ENTIRE SUSPENSION KIT. I'm talking the whole entire deal (purpose built and valved coilver/spring sets, rear leafs, upper control arms and the associated hardware etc..) you are making a serious engineering mistake, and there is literally no argument to the contrary, what so ever. period. full stop.

Purely from an empirical or 'scientific' perspective, this truck was VERY SPECIFICALLY engineered to perform As it came from the factory, and any change to that configuration necessitates a PROFFESSIONAL level of fit/finish and detail. As soon as you accept this as truth and reality, you will be halfway to teaching yourself about proper suspension modifaction and will be 100% on the path to having your truck not only properly lifted, but the performance and longevity of your investment (which it is) rewarded.
