What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I ordered new end links and bushings for my 98.

I was going to swap in Tim's entire assembly but I figured if I'm taking everything off, might as well do the entire poly bushing kit, at which point I said "then I'll just keep my 98 set up"

There are a couple of threads here and on ttora where guys use the extended end links because they are lifted. But I don't think my mild lift would call for that. The angle I have right now is not that bad.

 

I've know they were different for a while after buy quick disconnects for the sway bar.

But now I'm wondering if you can even use an older sway bar on a new tacoma. I wonder if the LCA mounts are different.

Man I really need to rhino line or plasti-dip my fender flares

 

Mine are painted with trim paint. Holding up ok but the front of the rear flares are chipped up pretty good. Thinking maybe line x next time I want to paint them.

 

Started mocking up the new rear bumper for my 3 1st gens. Almost there then time to break out the welder

 

Wow that gonna be a bitch to cut out all those pieces haha looks nice though. I noticed on the wrap arounds you made it tighter to the body about 4'' down. Would suggest not doing that. Leave it the larger gap. The sides will flex, and you won't want them dinging the body. You'll want a decent gap there. 1/4'' or so. would also suggest ending them a bit earlier and not so tight to the wheel well...for large tire growing purposes

I appreciate the input but the sides will be spaced 1/4 off the body along the entire length, the magnets just weren't strong enough to hold it to after a couple of tweaks. There will be a support that runs from the front of wraparound to the rear bumper so flexing should be kept at a minimum as well. If I decide to go larger tires I will just take it off and cut it back, but I doubt I will ever go that much larger.

I really do appreciate the input though, this is a first for me and I think since I am going to be doing three I will most likely just make up 20 or so

 

Any of you guys know where I can get better recovery tow hooks?

 

ah good! sweet man. Looking forward to the finished product! A bumper that that takes a lot of time to put together. It'll be impressive to whip out 3 much less 20! im sure people would buy them though.

 

Got a mint topper yesterday for $300! Disregard how dirty and salty she is, comes with living in the northern Midwest...

 

Just a thought, but I would integrate the receiver into the bumper, to improve the departure angle.
Just a personal preference.

 

It would make sense if it was a dedicated off road rig for me but none of my Taco's will ever see heavy of road use. This is my off road toy

Didn't get half as much snow as expected but something interesting happened today. For about 10mins it was fucking purple out! There are no filter on these pics.

 

Oh no, it is beat. There is not one panel on this truck that is not dented, scraped, or bruised. The reason it looks so good in this pic is that the doors back were just painted after cutting the rust out of it, but I do appreciate the compliment

 

wait..then why the trouble of doing a wrap around bumper? Why not just do a simpler rear one if you aren't offroading

 

Because at some point I may or one of my sons may want to go with me and I like the looks of them. All of my trucks have a OME lift on them, UCA's as well and a plate front bumper. Even though I do not plan to use it it is nice that the option is there if I so choose.

 

How much acid did you take?
