mobtown hidden recovery bar issue

I install the bar a few days ago and decided to hold off posting anything still i forgotten the regret i felt after doing it.
The bar is too big for the black gap. It took alot of force to get the bar to fix in it that i was afraid of breaking the bumber apart.
From the picture, the smallest part of the bar and the biggest part of the black gab in the bumber are not the same. Partly mine fault as i didn't measure before hand, i figure since it was made by a good fab group and was designed for the 2016 tacoma it would be fine.
Because the bar is too big and forcing the plastic apart, its also causing the lower part of my front grill from closing correctly. I'm just glad their two screw that hold it at the top of else it might pop out of i but a bumb.
Since it is pushing the front grill up the hood take good deal of force to close.

The moment I put it all back together i instantly regretted it. my brothers that help me was joking about me wasting money and time with the stuff i bought and telling me i might regret it. didnt day a word to me cause they saw the look on my face. i just went in the house and started to read a book to help me calm down.
I still have the skid plate i need to put on, but after reading a post about it hitting the exhaust pipe and this issue with the bar. I'm afraid of messing up more stuff on my truck.

I'm hoping that it was a mistake on my part during the installation and can be fix. only thing i can see is cut into the front grill to relieve the pressure that causing my grill and hood from closing properly, but in doing so defeat the point buying this bar. I like the stock look, but wanted a way to put a winch on with as little cutting as possible.
If anyone have an idea that help my please post your opinion.

Trim the piece around the receiver so it stops putting everything in a bind.

As you can imagine these trucks have minor variations considering they built in mass production. As much as we try to design and fabricate to this we can only be so perfect.

I'm sorry you're unhappy with the fitment. The solution if you've already trimmed the black, plastic is to trim the grill ever so slightly to relieve the pressure.

As for the skid plates, we've shipped A LOT of them and only one contacted the exhaust. Again, minor variations in the trucks. As you can imagine the exhaust hangs on rubber hangers and I'm sure they don't put much effort in making sure it's in the exact same spot over and over since it's not touching or even close to anything under the truck.

If you have an issue, let me know. Either way, contact me on how we can make this right.

 

In the future, I'd recommend your *first* step be to contact the vendor and ask them for help. I bet you'd have saved a lot of angst and upset feelings if you'd done that as soon as you felt the truck wasn't going back together right.

 

I can understand you frustration and reservations about cutting the plastic. In my honest opinion I recommend just cutting the plastic. It will still look great, make everything fit better, and make you feel better.

 

I cut as much as possible from the top, anymore and i hit the white part of my bumper. the bottom still have the thin black plastic bottom piece(red arrow). even if i take everything apart again to cut that thin piece, i don't think it'll solve the issue. it's the front grill that hitting it(red circle). the white paint that is in contact to the hitch and two shackles point is already scrap off due to the lower part of the grill moving when I'm driving. if i cut off a little bit in the red circle, the grill and hood might close properly. but doing so will make it look so bad. I might as well just cut it all off and get a full bumper.
I love my truck, wanted one since i was 18. took me ten years of saving and final got a good job to afford it. i just feel disappointment and regret when i look at it. it remind me of the time i let my cousin borrow my r1 to go to luna Seca with my brother and he creash it and bith of them didn't say anything to me. i had to walk into my garage to find it myself. they fix it back up, but i never rode it since then, it been in my garage for 5 years.

 

There are pretty big holes in the flange. Please make sure the recovery bar is pushed all the way down and held down during tightening. It tends to ride up a little. Looks like you only need a little bit to make it all work. The tight fit is on purpose to make it all look stock. It can be a pain but it usually works out for the best.

 

I don't understand why people can't do this instead of running straight to the forum to bitch about it. Most of the time the vendor can offer a solution that would save everyone some time & trouble. Mobtown is one of those vendors that you want to buy from because of how good the customer service is.

I feel your pain about fitment but it looks like Mobtown is willing to help you out! Like SoFlaTacoTRD said "test fit"! If it hurts too much to cut into the white plastic, break out the grinder and take down the shackle a bit.

 

I think everyone has made their point. No need to keep berating the OP and now each other.

I would prefer the customer to contact us first to see if we can make things right and then if we fail to reply by all means go to the forum. But this should be after attempts through PM,email or phone. It's rare that I don't get back to someone same day, worse case next day.

OP,

I suggest seeing what @Mobtown Offroad can do about your issue.

I don't own any of their products - yet.

But their presence and customer service on the forum is best. To the point where they won me over and seriously consider buying from them.

Am I defending them? No, because if they made a mistake, then yes, time to hit the drawing board and fix the problem. If they made a mistake, I know for sure they will own up to it. They did it with their skid plates. They are a young company and are legitly (sp?) doing their best, I applaud them.

I'd contact them first - see how it can be fixed. It's issues like this that we can take advantage and help the vendor learn to about issues. If the vendor refuses to fix the problem OR ignores your requests, then feel free to create a bad review thread.
