Looking for a carrier bearing drop kit/bracket

I recently lifted my 2001 4x4 front 3"/1.5" rear, and I'm getting some vibrations. Was looking to get a carrier bearing drop kit and only one I could seem to find was Beefed tacos custom bracket.. Are there any other type of brackets or drop kits out there??

 

Lots of people use stacks of washers to determine how much to drop their carrier bearing. They'll either leave the washers or go get a small piece of flat stock the same width as the washers.

 

I did what jjsul said, used washers and zero problems so far.

 

The local hardware stores here sell steel sleeves in different lengths and I.d's. Might be eaiser than a fat stack of washers.

 

By dropping the carrier bearing, all you're doing is reducing the angle on the rear u joint (which is what is causing the vibration), and increasing the angle on the u joint at the transfer case. The best way to eliminate unequal angles in your driveline is to rotate the axle so the pinion is at the correct angle for the driveline geometry. You can do this fairly simply with angled shims under your leaf springs, or cut the spring perches off and weld them at the right angle.

That's probably a good approximation for a ~3" lift. You can measure all the driveline angles with an inclinometer (I use one

$25 GemRed 82412 Digital Angle Gauge (Green Backlight)

like this with a magnetic base), then figure out exactly what angle you need. You can have 4crawler make you a custom one to match your driveline geometry. They also have a lot of info about how to measure your driveline correctly, and how to adjust it.

OP, i too would shim the axle and fix the problem instead of changing an angle elsewhere to help the issue...

 

The pinion should be pointing directly at the rear driveshaft, yes?

 

With a double cardan driveshaft the rear pinion should be pointing just below the carrier bearing (maybe 0.5*). This ensures that when accelerating from a stop, which causes the springs to wrap a little bit and the pinion raises, you won't get slow speed vibes.

 

Ordered 2 degree shims, will updated once I install them Monday.

 

With my 1.5 inch rear lift I too was getting vibrations. I got and installed 2 degree shims (rule of thumb is 1 degree per inch lift) from HeadStrong Offroad. This cured it. Smooooth once again. I was considering shimming the carrier bearing as well . . . there's no need.

 

I installed my 2 degree shims and it fixed about 70% of the vibrations. Still a little annoying but it's better than it was before.
