At least the Marine had a story line, and was more geard toward a guy movie...and you knew before you watched that movie that it wasn't gonna be AWSOME....but The Hurt Locker is a totally different story

thats what happens when people put out crap like Jarhead. the public walks away thinking thats what it was like!

I actually think Generation Kill did a pretty decent job though. it was "churched" up in a few areas but it was actually the closest thing recently that i have seen to Marine military life in country.

Even though the Hurt Locker was NOT acurate. I thought the movie was GREAT! Hollywood has to put their spin on things(usually very liberal:mad:) to make the civilians want to see it.

Did you hate Avatar because it wasn't real?
    What about Star Wars?

    Movies are not real.

Jarhead was the MOST boring movie ever!

Getting beside the military inaccuracies (of which I know very little), for all of you in the military, did the movie at least somewhat capture the difficulties in going back to civilian life?

Ohh dont get me started on Pearl Harbor:mad:...I thought it was a horrible movie...Using An event like that for a title for a movie to rack in money...Only about 30 minutes of the movie was actual based on the events of that horrible day, the rest was a love story.
I walked out of that movie, and demanded my money back...and they refunded it:D

Same here, I knew exactly what movie you were talking about. I thought it was decent, I enjoyed the suspenseful moments. But, I felt like it never really got going, no real storyline or anything. Basically just a bunch of clips thrown together. I give it a 7/10.

This is the problem with being military and watching movies based on the military.

I was a B-52 crew chief before I cross trained into ground radio. I watched "Dr. Strangelove" and after being in a B-52 everyday for four years, I sat down and watched the movie and it was so far off base and all I did was ridicule the movie. In other movies I always point out the uniform flaws, or the terminoligy used. I try not to let my military service take hold when watching these, but I can't help it.

If you don't know how the military works then most of these movies have cinematic value. In the end of the day it is theatrical, not real life. But it is hard to discount what you KNOW as fact when watching a movie that strays so far from reality.

This is true. All the missions I was on, EOD never rolled out until everything was done with. I only remember them coming on one mission and I almost kicked one of the techs in the head. My dog showed interest in a particular area so I let them know. Then one of the techs came over and just started sticking his knife in the ground. I said you dumb-fuck, if your gonna do that wait for me to move cuz I dont wanna blow up today. But according to the EOD guys here, some parts of the movie were true but exaggerated. And they didnt all happen to one guy. They also said the guy that the movie was based on was a douchebag.

the problem is that they are trying to portray real life. Military guys get upset about this stuff because all you civilians (You civilians sounds funny hahahaa i will be one soon:) )are ever going to know is what you see in those movies and no matter how much you realize yourself that it is a movie and probably fabricated to some degree, most of the things you think about us military guys is going to be based off of those stupid movie inaccuracies.

Thats what gets us upset. just think, for how many people are the movies thier only experience with military?? think about the thoughts and preconceptions that will be developed in thier mind after watching one of these inaccurate movies?? Millions of people are being fed a bunch of bullcrap and they dont have a choice but to base their thoughts about us on a movie.

Now that is different if you have friends in the military or have had some experience with it then that can counter some of this crap but that is hardly ever the case, its just Joe Schmoe out there watching a flick for the evening. I wanted to punch the person responsible for Jarhead because you create an ignorant person when it comes to thier feelings for the military if you create something like that for them to watch.

Dont get me started on stop loss!!! ahahahaha that movie was funny because of how much of a joke it was :)

Black Hawk Down has to be one of the most accurate modern military movie that Hollywood got right...granted there are some thing i can critize on, but its pretty good on how they portray the movie.
