2005 Tacoma, Truck is at stealership for recall and the guy is tellin me that it has a lift kit and he would have to buy different parts to mount the recall springs, at the cost of $200, I bought this truck with zero miles on it. I had a front leveling kit put on it years ago, nothing was done to the rear springs, has anyone had this recall done and dealed with this, I told them put the new ones on if they can but I wont Pay the $200 and I want all the old parts, just feel I am being scammed.

If the rear is completely stock, I can't imagine why they wouldn't replace. I never dealt with a replacement personally, but it does seem odd. Good luck

The dealer is trying to tell me it isn't stock, I know it is.They said they would need to buy different u bolts , said I have one more spring then stock, I know nothi g was added to the rear . Guess I will find a 2005 stock Tacoma and check it out and see if it is different.

If the rear is stock there shouldn't be a problem. If you haven't touched the rear it would be two leafs and an overload, if you had the TSB done years ago it would be three leafs and the overload. So you should have either 3 or 4 leafs down there.

I would ask them to show you where and how it has been "modified" from stock. Sounds like they either don't know what they're doing or trying to trick you into paying for something you shouldn't be paying for.

I was trying to find pictures of stock springs with no luck, I think the dealer is shady, even the spiral cable replacement is shady, bad thing is I am planning on buying a new Tacoma and just trying to make this one in Better shape and safe because I plan on giving it to my grandson, but im not to happy with this dealer today.

Stock TSB (4 leaf leaf springs) look like this -
    [IMG]

Yours most likely look like the top set in this picture, 3 leaf leaf springs.

The bottom set in the 2nd picture is a set of OME Dakar leaf springs.
The 1st picture is what the recall springs look like (it isn't them, but they look the same.)

Weird... That idk. If it's been your truck the whole time no idea how the u-bolts could have been changed without your knowledge.

I had the stock 3-lead springs that were recalled. They ended up replacing them with new u-bolts. I found out when I looked after the install, my very dirty u-bolts were now brand new ones.

You should takes some pics of the rear end just so everyone can see.

Also, you ever lend your truck to anyone for anything? Anyone possibly damage it and get it repaired without you knowing?

Besides the obvious "shady dealer" I'm just thinking out of the box.

when they did the "level" kit did someone throw a block on it or an extra leaf (Add-A-Leaf)??? and change out U-bolts?

Now that I think about it, when I had the leaf spring recall done they installed new u-bolts as well.

It would make sense that they put in new longer u-bolts. The new leaf pack has a extra leaf in it. But not at a cost to the customer. I'd think it would be covered :notsure:
