New Taco comes with synthetic oil !!!!!!!

Called my dealership today concerning the leaf spring TSB and scheduled an appointment no problem. While chatting with the service rep. she advised me that
my first oil and filter change was on the house and wanted to know my mileage, when I told her 935 miles she said I had a long time to go as Tacoma’s now come with synthetic oil and anytime between 5,000 and 10,000 would be fine. I was surprised to learn about the synthetic oil and had planned to do my own oil and filter change at about 1,500 with regular oil. My understanding is that once you go to synthetic oil you cannot go back to regular oil. My reason for posting this is to alert other owners of a possible oil type conflict upon the first oil change. I hope I
posted this in the right place !?!?!?

Fear not, synthetic and mineral based oils can be freely mixed. Switch back and forth, mix the two together, it doesn't matter in the least.

 

Is she new? I haven't heard anybody else say this as of yet...I am not buying it. Even if it was synthetic from the factory, the rules wouldn't be, change it anywhere between 5-10,000 miles! That is just plain crazy, and this broad should be fired for telling you this.

Also switching back to dino is not going to make any difference, or going to synth from dino...it is all good.

 

I would change it long before 5,000 miles. i canged mine at 500 with sythetic

 

I was told at my 5K service that the oil was dyno....and that if I wanted synthetic, it would cost extra! Imma guessin' she was misinformed..........

 

first oil change or two its best to use dino oil as it seats the rings in better. Than swap to synth and not look back

 

I just bought my 2010 the other day. They guy said that the 1st oil change would be needed at 5k and that if I wanted to switch to synthetic then I would have to stay with synthetic

 

THat is an untrue myth. Your rings will seat just fine with Synthetic oil.

Synthetic or not, your toyota filter is designed to go 5k miles.
