I mean if your really looking for a Towing vehicle then diesel would be a good option or the Tundra. Dodge has the eco diesel but I've heard nothing but problems and at the end of the day, it's a fiat. The 3.5 will stay in the Tacoma, you can bet on it. The transmission will get more updates in the future for sure, IF ANYTHING, Toyota MAY update the gearing l as in Diff for little lower end power. Maybe send out a TSB for a engine tune. Highly doubt it though. It is detuned a bit and can make more power, you can see the numbers at over 300hp in some lexus applications.

Again, diesels are nice for towing but I wouldn't want one for anything else. As someone else had said, with new emissions and stuff, paying for DEF and diesel itself is costly. Also, seems that when something goes wrong with diesels, it's expensive of a fix. I'll stick to my 3.5. I have no issues with it and will probably not tow anything any with significant weight.

I know right? Call him out and he will get all pissy about it. See my signature.

Most of his post are similar. He will say something dumb, then when you call him out, he uses the " I was just joking". After so many... it becomes obvious what he is really trying to do.

Cost of diesel (long term maintenance) doesn't really bother me because I am not going to be keeping the vehicle very far outside the warranty (if at all) anyhow.

In my opinion Toyota will not put a diesel in the Tacoma (anytime soon) for one reason - they don't need to. They still sell far more mid size trucks than any other brand and the cost for them to bring that to market is not worth it until they are put under pressure to do so. Hell, most of the reviews I have read about the Colorado/ Canyon recommend getting the V6 over the Duramax simply because there is not that much difference in performance compared to the additional cost. I think it's much more likely we would see a Tacoma hybrid in a few years. Now, a great case could be made for them to put one in the Tundra.

Yeah I'd like to see the price on that. Hope it's not as shitty as the twin turdo 6 that fail at 30k miles. Actually I still don't care, it's a Ford.

I just towed about 4000lbs up and down the Grapevine (Highway 5, north of LA, pretty big incline)... put ECT on, cruise control at 60 mps. no problems. shitty mileage, but oh well.

Did you see the pic of the new ranger? dear lord it was ugly... like a sportrac and ridgeline did the deed. I'd be insulted if that thing ever surpassed the Tacoma in sales.

However, I agree with you. Toyota will have to do something eventually. The big 3 have been making serious moves at Toyota's throne in the midsize field.

EDIT: Ram has the eco diesel, Ford will have the powerstroke in the F150, Chevy has the dmax in the Colorado.... It'll be a matter of time before Toyota does something new. Whether it is a diesel option, who knows? I think they would be better served putting a diesel in the Tundra like Nissan did with the Titan.

thats not the new ranger. That is a pic of the euro-model. In the article it even says "will feature unique front-end styling, engines, and features as compared to the Euro-market truck."

Oh really? I must have missed that. Well if it looks halfway decent, then it would just be another competitor.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
Not sure if the Tacoma will get a diesel or not, but the thought has crossed my mind. The grill on the third gen is way bigger than it needs to be for the size of engine. Also there is a ton of room in between the radiator and grill. Enough to easily add in an intercooler and there is plenty of room in the engine bay to add a larger engine. If they did add a diesel, I think it wouldn't be until 2019 or so.:stirthepot:

Well until they do, Tacoma is still the king of this segment. The Ranger is a 2019 model and it would likely take a couple years after that for them to really eat into the Tacoma market share. I have no doubt they can do it - people loved those Rangers, but there is also no guarantee it will be as good or popular as the old one.

in 1999 ford sold 350k of them... It will happen. Americans love ford. There is a reason the F-150 sells like it does.
