    Hey glad to see this worked out for you guys (i am the original poster from toyotanation). I just bought a second highlander and was doing a search to see if anyone tried the lexus key on the 2016 models and came across this thread. does this work on the if programmed as a 2016 highlander or just the 2015?

    Awesome job by the way. I was inspired by what you had accomplished but I am kinda a cheap ass...so i saved myself $250 and ended up opening my fob to see how big the internal components were. Had an awesome idea to use my food vacuum sealer and waterproof just the internal chip.

    Wasn't without a little error though. The little buttons compressed when sealed and was causing some issues so I used some tweezers and ripped them off, helped shrinken my form factor a little too. After all said and done not quite as nice as the lexus key but still easily slides into my wallet all while saving me some $$$.

    Still a little thicker than 3 credit cards but not by much. Anyways, thought I'd share cause I know there are other cheap asses out there too, and if y'all came up with any other ideas please post. Thanks again. :bowdown:

    Ok this is a must have for when my '17 Taco shows up. Thanks to all who contributed their time, efforts, and hard earned money to see if this is possible.

    I'm looking into getting a cable and installing Techstream on an old Windows laptop, so that should give me the ability to program keys, or the card, in this case?

    I was looking on eBay just a little, and there are Lexus card keys on their for like $20-25, but they are used. Is there a way to tell if one of those could be used instead of spending $200 on a new one from Lexus?

    The computer used to program the key (either a windows computer, Toyota techstream, or a speacialty locksmith device) will connect to the OBDII port under the dashboard.

    I've been getting some discount codes after leaving the items on the cart overnight (logon with my Partznet account, add items to cart).     I will wait until Friday or Saturday when the Transmitter sub-assembly arrives and then find a Locksmith. Since I reside in a thriving metropolis of about 7,800 people, it will be hard to find
    a locksmith locally who can do it - so, I'll probably have to go to Memphis or Nashville to have
    it done - about 110 miles either way. $10.00 sounds good and would make the trip worthwhile. But, I think it will be a little more. This calls for a phone call to Robinson Toyota in Jackson (25 miles west) before I do anything.

    7,800 is not too shabby, when you consider I came here from Tallahassee, FL
    with a population of 181,386 and got there from Jacksonville with a population
    of 821,784.
