Believe most truck owners don't even use their trucks as trucks anymore...the pickup has become the family hauler, and more about image than actual use. Why the pickup market now has luxury options now...gaaaad what has happened to the good old pickup? Car people, that is what happened.

Honestly don't even consider a tacoma a "real" truck, even though I own one. Can't really haul or tow much of anything with it. It is a watered down version of the Hilux...now that is a "real" truck.

Should go look up the payload ratings of all the new unibody euro-vans we are getting now. Putting even some fullsize trucks to shame.

Guys getting macho over a Tacoma is kinda funny...I used to operate heavy equipment for a living, sat in earth moving equipment all day long and drive any thing from 1 tons up to Tri-Axle Mack trucks to yank those machines around.

Bought a Toyota truck as my daily way back when (25 years ago was my first), because it was car-like and easy to drive in comparison. Even the driving position is more like a car, than the other big trucks we owned.

I find the 3rd gen hard to look at...the latest HiLux isn't much better.

Like the 7th Gen HiLux the best for looks...nice and clean, and doesn't have that cod piece grill like the 3rd Gen Taco...that seems like it is over compensating for something...must be the lack of payload. :D

It is too bad we can't get the HiLux here...can actually use it for work. Payload is over 2000 lbs, plus gets 30 mpg. Think the closest we can get to that here real soon...is the new F150 with the diesel.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
Those were only in production for 2 1/2 years. Ford realized that it was a bad mistake when the body and frames were distorting and cracking when loaded. They vary quickly (halfway through the 63 model year) went to body on frame construction. Materials are better nowadays and Honda figured out how to make it work, but body on frame is stronger.

I think Honda makes what most people need more than what they want. Most people don't actually need to go where everyone else can't. Most people don't need the best looking truck. They want it. The Honda all wheel drive is better the Toyota's 4 wheel drive on snow covered roads that most people drive on daily. The taco is better in deep snow but most people just stay home if there is 6 inches of snow on the road. My Tacoma is a pretty little beast.

I am not surprised. I work with about 700 people. Of the people, I know, that have the Ridgeline, 100% satisfaction. Of the people, I know, that have the Tacomas, 33% would buy again, and one is selling it because he hates it. Sure, this is a small sample, but it is what it is.

When I worked at Home Depot, I had Ridgelines in line daily to pick up landscaping supplies. Several local outfits use them for their personal/work crew trucks. Those speakers and under bed ice chest were the sinker for them. Lots of Baby Boomer college football tailgaters bought them too, and that's the market for the Ridgeline really: Suburban Baby Boomers.

I don't know what's so funny about the RL.
Sure, it doesn't look like a Bro truck, but let me show you what it does have.
Height adjustable seat, rear air vents, and a bed you can lay a full sheet of plywood or drywall flat. Comfort, safety, and useability are what won the award.

My only gripe with the Ridgeline is the inevitable VCM issues.

I probably would be driving one right now if I didn't have to pay nearly $40k for a sliding rear window. A cap was definitely in the future of any truck purchase, and the window was a must for access to my dogs.

I would have even driven an automatic again if they had a trim level that appealed to me.
