This website is great! Just had this problem with my buddies 07. Followed the exact same lead as previously ststed and found the burnt connector.

Gonna replace it this week!

I have a 2012 and am seeing the opposite. Mine works on all speeds except high. Any thoughts?

 

Just wanted to let you guys know I have a 2013 and it was doing the same thing so I picked up a can of electrical cleaner spray unplugged the resistor and sprayed some of that in there and sprayed it out with the air compressor and works good as new again. Save yourself the money and try this before you go buying a new one! Hope this helps

 

Hey guys, I've been having the same problem, check my resistor plug and it is burned like, the rest. I also noticed that the 2 wire power plug that connects to the blower motor is also burned, and that the blower will start running again when you push on the plug.

Anyone have the part number for the power plug for the blower motor? It's the small 2 wire white plug that comes off the same wiring harness that the resistor plug comes off of.

I ordered the new resistor and connector plug/wires. I wound up not needing the plug/wires. But, the resistor was toast (it was the one that came in my truck when I bought it new & it was the one from Slovenia!) Anyway, the blower motor was shot too! I'm keeping the wire in case I ever need it in the future (it was only $17). New resistor & blower & motor and I'm back in business! Thanks for all of you help folks!

 

I agree, great thread. I only had to replace the Resister, Blower (current part # 87138-04052) with my old one. I ended up popping the 50amp fuse in the engine compartment fuse box (#29), but after I replaced the fuse, everything worked. I had the same issue with the blower only working on high. 2010 4WD DBL Cab.

 

Where did you buy the connector? I've called every auto store in my area and none of them carry the connector, pigtails, or the resistor! Apparently I have to go to dealership. Not looking to spend hundreds. Could you send the info on where to buy these??

 

At first I thought the fan was totally shot until I started to Wiggle wires around. Fan still works but at times I have to wiggle the connection. Going to clean this up and apply bulb grease to hopefully buy sometime before it blows my resistor. Anyone know where I can buy all these parts? Called every where. No luck.

 

Any ideas on why the opposite might occur? All settings except "high" work on mine.

 

Have you inspected the cabin filter? Mine was disgustingly black and I'm assuming that's why my connector is fried. Check your cabin filter. If it's dirty as hell, that maybe the problem. If it is decently clean, leave it out and turn the trucks electrical system on. Don't start the engine, just turn the key to the "on" position. Turn your fan on HIGH and listen for the fans motor. If you can hear the fans motor running but the fan isn't moving, check your connector.. I'm no electrical engineer but these forums are extremely helpful! Probably better than YouTube lol

 

Looking at a web search for these part numbers show a price of about 6 dollars each at places like Camelback Toyota etc...

I would order genuine parts through an online dealer or go to the locale dealer..

They are also on ebay at a higher price.

There is no such thing as bulb grease. What you are referring to is actually Dielectric Grease and is not intended to be applied to the contacts as it is an insulator that does not conduct current. It is intended to seal water and contaminates out of an environmentally exposed connector.

No. That is incorrect.

A blocked fan will pull less current than an unblocked fan because it is not doing any work.

Your problem is the terminals are loose adding resistance and generating heat. Get the replacement connector as posted above and repair it before it damages more wiring.

My resistor at the fan was bad for so long it burned the switch. So after doing the resistor and wire replacement I had to replace the fan switch assy. I got it from a wrecking yard and funny thing is I tried 3 different ones from the wrecker and all three my temp is now backwards but works great. So don't wait to replace the resistor at the fan...it may burn the switch too.

 

My '07 was only blowing on the highest speed. I was going deaf from listening to the radio so loud. Wish I had found this thread before buying a used climate control panel from a junk yard (I assumed it was the fan speed switch, it wasn't).

Bought these two parts on Amazon for about $50 and installed them in about an hour. It works great now.

Anyone want to buy a used climate control panel?

 

So, I've just been through this very issue. Driving around in the cold without a heater will motivate just about anyone to figure it out... and quick!

Fan stopped working, except on high. Then it stopped working altogether.

Checked the resistor. It was fine. Checked the plug that the resistor plugs into...it was a little discolored on one pin, but not very bad. Pulled the glove compartment to access the cabin air filter. It was clean.

While I had the filter out, I turned the fan on low, and nudged the fan with my finger...IT WORKED! I could then turn it on all speeds and it worked great! If I let it stop completely, though, turning it back on did nothing. The fan just sat there, stationary.

I pulled the fan motor (It's simple...there's 3 screws on the bottom of the fan housing (5.5mm or 7/16 spcket required), and it pops right down and out. Unplug, and the fan motor is free.

I took the fan apart and then the motor rear casing. Inside was FULL of copper dust and yuck from the commutator and brushes, and it was clogging up the fan and bushings, making it hard to turn. High pressure air from my compressor and it was all clean. Reassembled the whole thing, flipped the switch, and VOILA! It works!

Easy, cheap, and effective fix. The commutator and brushes are showing a lot of wear, so I'll have to replace the fan unit at some point in the near future, but I see they're less than a hundred bucks at all the auto parts stores.

Can anyone tell me where the 4 pin connector is located and how to get to it?

 

The 4 pin connector is under the blower motor under the glove box. To give you an idea, imagine sitting in the passenger seat and the connector and resistor should be about where your left foot is.

Mine looks pretty bad, going to be fun to clean! I did wiggle it and it still works so the resistor is good.

 

I changed my blower motor resistor in April when I bought the truck used, and it failed again this week. Any ideas on what might be making the resistor fail repeatedly?
