Since your shopping '10's, buy another Ranger. Maybe an '11. And it will be cheaper.

You'll get rear discs too. You can flaunt it to many around here who whine about the Taco not having them.

(BTW, if the Ranger you test is stock, it won't ride all manly like your current one either)

Only reason I'm changing vehicles is I have a baby on the way. Can't fit the baby and the wife in the Ranger. The Ford Explorer T is not good looking.

Sounds like I should go post in the suspension forum about lifts and shocks.

I just have one main requirement. I want to enjoy driving whatever I get. Driving to me is fun, if it's no fun to drive then it's not for me.

If your going with a 2010 might as well replace original stock suspension anyway. The shitty leaf springs are probably shot.

Is this your only vehicle? Might be difficult getting a car seat in/out of a lifted truck.

No the wife has a Corolla that will be the primary vehicle. I feel that we should have 2 vehicles that can carry more than 2 people in case a vehicle breaks down.

these trucks are a blast to drive. when I first bought mine I went through 3 sets of tires in the first year. with the prerunner the locker in the sand is capable of just about anything. if you pull the trigger you definitely won't regret it.

If you did not like the one you test drove then I doubt you thought it was fun, maybe look at a 4Runner or a Jeep.

LOVE my 2013 Sport with the stiffer suspension!

Test drove an OR and this Sport and despite the fact I wanted the locker option liked the ride of the Sport better.

The Sport was ~$5k cheaper and that easily supplies an after market locker but so far here in Arizona I have not needed it. Clears trails I had to lock my 4Runner Ltd.......

Fun trucks that go for ever and easy to get money back if you get bored as long as you don't do any extreme/stupid mods.

I always considered the off road to ride firmer than the sport. I had a sport and my friend had a off road. I now have a 2015 limited that rides like a car, not for off road use. I am an old guy lol

    In reference to 2nd gens:
Yeah OR has progressive rate coils with the bilsteins, Sport has linear coils with bilsteins, and SR5/base/Limited have linear coils with standard shocks.

My only source is having gathered this from being on the forum since '07

Either way, im sure he is going to probably slap some 5100's on there to bump it up a little whether he goes OR or sport. So ride quality is essentially a mute point if he goes down that road, no?
Get what you like in your price range. Only real difference would be the locker and wheels.

OR used to (does it still) get a 3-leaf pack, Base/SR5/Sport get a 4-leaf pack and are therefore stiffer.
If you stiffen the suspension, it reduces the ability of the vehicle's wheels to articulate over the uneven ground you'll get in offroad conditions.

    Nah.

You have it backwards. Sport had a 4 leaf pack because it was stiffer.

Every other truck was a 3 leaf.

In 2014 the 3 leaf pack died off and all trucks of that model year (and later) use the same 4 leaf pack.

No. Everything EXCEPT offroad had 4 leaf.

I'll just tell it to my 4 leaf packs on my SR5 (not TRD-anything) that DCSBFTMFW doesn't believe in them.

You're basing your idea on one truck, I'm basing mine on every other truck.

    This is common knowledge.

    What year is your truck?

Common knowledge is that OFFROAD stands alone.
