Do you need to know, or care?
I stay far away from Buicks, FAR AWAY! I know you were there first, demon showed up and got your truck. Damn Buicks should be banned, along with anybody old enough to be driving them.

    This
Happened to me when the truck wasn't a week old, I got bumped in the rear(yea yea..) lady gets out, goes into a teriyaki place gets her food and leaves while yelling "it's your fault" no damage(scratch on unpainted portion of rear bumper) but have some decency. Called the cops, he tracked her, reason she left was not having insurance. He called me saying he gave her a citation for no insurance and asked if I wanted to press charges, I said no thanks.

I would put on my ski mask and grab my baseball bat and followed her home......That's me though, different thoughts. Jk. Anyhow I would have called the cops just cause she went inside. She could do worse in the future and get away with it by just walking away. Screw that. We see to much of that shit. Even if no damage occurred, lesson needs to be taught.

File claim. See where it goes. Decide from there if you want to take the offer. Otherwise, pay out of pocket or leave it

In the end, I really didn't want her to go home with her husband waiting to beat her with his jumper cables. There is no saving the world from old white ladies who drive a Buick. Had she also been Asian, holyshityes ... I would have called in an air strike.

It sucks when people hit and run. I just had to go through the same thing with my car.

Despite what many have said, this damage will have to be covered by your collision coverage. However, it should be marked as a not at fault accident. Depending on the amount paid by insurance, you could see a small rate increase.

Generally speaking, there are two types of uninsured motorist coverage, but neither will apply here. The first is uninsured motorists coverage for bodily injury and the other is uninsured property damage (UPD) coverage. The laws vary in each state, but a common theme among all is that in order to use UPD you have to know who hit you and you have to be able to confirm that they do not have active insurance.

    Good luck with the repairs.

That third statement is incorrect... a hit and run is a collision claim.

And so much of that is incorrect... Stop spreading bad information.

Even if you dont take the payout, does the insurance company take into account that your vehicle is worth less with damage and would have a lower payout if totaled, stolen, etc? This assumes youre living with the damage, and its now on record that you have it.

Yup. That's why I prefer to pay more per month and stick with a $250 deductible.

Depends on how you look at it, I've never had to use it in 17 years......pretty sure I still come out way ahead on that one. For example if I payed 15 dollars a month more for the coverage you have that would be 180$ per year in premiums multiplied by 17 years that's 3060$.
