Says something about a dealership that would employee a salestard like the OP described.

    Just hold your ground....

The dealer i purchased my truck from I waked on them as well but the salesman bent over backwards to get me back. They had to opportunity to have my 14 OR with bedrug,Leer 100XQ topper and weather tech mats when I was there the 1st time and when I returned the next day the topper and bedrug and mats were MIA. The used car manager was like where is the topper, mats and bedrug I said that was yesterdays deal today is as you see it. He said that changed the trade deal I said okay fine no biggie see ya and I made half way to my truck before the salesman came running going where are you going I said go talk to douche bag used car manager. I left in my new Truck with a better deal than we had agreed too....

Man, lousy service plain and simple. I would have walked out the minute he pulled around in the Limited.

I have a lookover story you might enjoy.

An older fellow, a bit scruffy, in bibs and flannel in a Caterpillar dealership in the early 70's. Pointed to a bulldozer he wanted and asked how much. He was told he couldn't afford that one, it was $40k.

He asked to speak to the manager, who did appear. Asked again how much, and the manager said $40k. Buyer says I'll pay $37.5k if you include delivery and a tank of fuel. The salesmen were in earshot and quietly snickering, the manager says you have a deal.

Buyer reaches in his bibs, pulls a roll and says draw up the papers, I'm paying now and expect delivery by sundown.

The salesman almost fainted, as his snideness cost him a healthy commission.

Anyway, point is, in fairness to the dealership, you really should layout the situation to the sales manager regarding the salesman. Not to get him fired nessecarily, but to certainly get him off the floor till he's retrained. He's hurting their business. Oh, he'll get fired soon enough for not writing enough business, but how many folks like you will never return? Collateral damage?

If the manager is smart, he'll deal swiftly. If not, then they deserve what they don't get. Sales.

PS. My 'buying tip' once the test driving and package decision is made? Shop the internet. Email all the stores as far as you are willing to go, spec the exact package, tell them you want their lowest cash and carry no haggle price. Sell your truck on your own, have your financing, if any, pre set. Take out every obstacle they can use to obfuscate the actual price they offer.

    Good luck!

I knew someone that had a similar experience a number of years ago. He bought the car elsewhere and took it back to the first dealership and, in a nice loud voice in the middle of the sales area, announced to the salesman that he lost a real sale pointing his new car.

:gossip: could be the owners son, the GMs mistress's son, etc. etc. You know. Give Bobby a job and I'll let you keep yours. If I'm even warm, the only way to overcome that is to have customer reported SNAFUs that bite the big boy's wallet. Then Bobby will have to get a real job.

HaHa, Another funny story a buddy of mine rode in on his HD looked at a new Cadillac in jeans and a t-shirt no one came out of the dealership as they were all looking at him from inside. He looked around and waited for someone to come out no one did. He then goes inside asks for the newest sales person on the floor. He then tells the 19 yr old kid he whats that white one right there delivered to the address on the business card before 4 PM. After working the deal he pulls out the check book writes a check for the car and tells all the other sales people to fuck off.....He was buying this car for his grandmother who was loaded.

Moral of the story is don't judge someone....

Back when we were buying my Ex a new Jetta the Dealership refused to sell one at Invoice so we went to a different one and bought at Invoice, a few days later the original Dealership called ready to make a deal and said they would have sold at Invoice, they missed out when they had the chance.

Typical dealer experience. Salesmen get tunnel vision.

I just wish the used car vampires would stop mobbing me when I bring mine in for service. No, it's not for sale, I don't want to trade in and I don't give a damn about your 'super low interest rate for today only'!

A complaint for a sub-par salesman ... take the higher road and just ask to speak to someone else ... you'll stand in a better light.

That's rough. I feel like a good dealership would have formally apologized and offered to have someone else (more knowledgeable) to help you out, but at the same time I'm not surprised by their response. I just purchased my 3rd Tacoma this past weekend and dealt with 4 different dealerships in the area. 3 of them put in the least amount of effort needed to get the sale and wouldn't come close to my asking price. One flat out told me that Tacomas are so popular here that if I didn't buy it, it would be bought by someone else within the week anyway so I was wasting my time.

The last dealership called me back in 3 times to negotiate with me and even though they didn't have a TRD Sport in the colors I was interested in, they made a trade with another dealership to get what I wanted in at the price I was looking for. They've definitely won my business for life.

A lot of hero stories on this thread, not sure if they're all true..

I don't know that 'filing a complaint' really means anything to most dealers when it comes to people they perceive as tire kickers who complain they were disrespected.

Dealers always play the 'buy low, sell high' game so don't be offended when you get offered way less than you feel your truck is worth. Sell it yourself if you don't like their offer and you'll see that it's no picnic dealing with strangers via Craigslist or Auto Trader etc.

If you don't like a dealer just buy from someone else and be done with it.

Toyota Dealerships have really hit rock bottom. I haven't had a good experience at one since I bought my original Tacoma in Denver back in 08 when gas prices were $5/gallon.

More recently in Michigan and California I've had pretty shitty experiences. The dealer in Michigan tried selling me a year newer Tacoma with less options when I went in asking for a Tundra. I told them to f-off and left.

Here in California I bought my 09 at a really good price (shocking), used at a dealership, 2 weeks later I get a letter in the mail from their sales manager telling me he wants to buy it back "AT TOP DOLLAR" and get me setup in a brand new Camry. Again I called and told them to f-off and stop sending me canned messages.

And I can totally understand that. Doesn't mean sometimes someone slips through the cracks and gets hired that is an idiot.
