Yeah, something like that lol Put 1/3 down in cash when I bought it so i'll pay it off quick. I just hate owing anyone money. I don't even have a single credit card, cash or I don't buy it.

What does that even mean? So your factory suspension is going to last 200k? on one set of shocks? on a spacer lift? Again, you literally have to lie to yourself to justify the mistake you made. Not only is your spacer lift going to blow the life out of your factory suspension, you are going to go through factory spec shocks at 3x the rate of someone without some POS junk lift on their truck, that just left it stock.

And the more you post the clearer it gets how little you know about anything suspension related.
    http://www.drivingline.com/articles/how-to-king-coilover-shock-rebuild/
Suspension rebuild kits are Cheap and the process is simple. When a factory spec shock or even Bilstein 5100' or 6112's are done, they are DONE. As in non-serviceable. A fully replaced part. KING/FOX/ICONS can be rebuilt to factory spec-new for a fraction of the cost.

whether you "use" it or not (assuming you meant off-road), you're destroying your truck. Suspensions are a "system" and they don't exist in a vaccum and are tied to everything else in the truck.

http://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p400/FOX_Level_1_Kit_-_16__Tacoma.html Totals $1174.95 and that includes the rear leaf kit.

Youre talking about a $600 price difference between your junked out truck-destroying spacer/block lift VS a FULL FOX front and rear suspension/leaf kit. I have no idea how this was even a choice for your, after spending $35k+ on your new truck. $600 measly dollars is virtually NOTHING, and the difference in quality is astronomical.

However you want to justify your lift to yourself is just fine. I'm not a fan of preload spacers however bolt on top spacers are just fine. In no way shape or form will they cause my stock front shocks or coils to fail any sooner than anyone else. Rear shocks were replaced purely because they were too short once the lift was installed. I may upgrade to 888 coils and 3rd gen 5100s up front at some point but that's purely for a bit more comfortable ride. I have zero concern of failure or premature wear. This is FAR from my first lift and far from the first time I've used spacers I've used rear coils up front, made leaf packs, done everything from a set of 4 coil spacers to the $3500 lift I put in my 95 Cherokee which was a beast. I know the difference in both ride and quality. My Cherokee was awesome on road and off, very smooth, very comfortable, but it was built to beat the hell out of. My Tacoma will never see more than a dirty road or occasional mud puddle I may stumble across. It's a street truck, I lifted it because I couldn't stand it sitting so low on tiny stock tires.

Right and you figure he was driving it normally, not wheeling it hard? You see how that thing is bent before it broke? Maybe jumped it, who knows. You're also assuming he had coil spacers. How about a complete suspension picture or a link to the article? Ever seen the snap rings on the 5100s fail? I have, everything has a failure rate even when used properly

Got a link to the whole story including pictures showing spacers? Proof spacers had anything to do with it? Proof it wasn't already bent and failing before the pothole? Google shock failure. See how many bent and broken fox, icon, and every other shock comes up. Actually happens way more often that I expected to see..

Always seen that picture posted but never saw the backstory. That must've been a hell of a pothole. And parking lot? Would probably need to be exceeding a safe speed in that case.

There's a whole hell of a lot to that story that's not being told. Maybe a pothole did finish it off but it was already failing long before that.

Its happened many times on member trucks. One wasn't even a hole, as much as a small dip. All happened with Top plate spacers. They lengthen the shock, and upon rebounding, the shock is over extended, and breaks on the lower end. All instances were due to top plate spacers. SO....Use a top plate spacer, and enjoy the ride, and lift, just drive it like a gandma. Use a preload spacer, and have a ride like an Amish wagon, and enjoy the lift, and off road. OR, Spend a handful of bucks more, and do it right.

Much appreciated. He's not entirely wrong, just drank a little too much kool aid. Spacers are NOT the best option. There are better options but that all depends on your intended use. If I wheeled every weekend, camped in the woods a lot, I could justify a beefier suspension. I drive my truck on weekends, go out with my wife and kids for a burger, it's a weekend driver. I've had it since May 18th and have about 3500 miles on it. There's no reason for me to dump big money into the suspension just to drive it on the street.

But he doesn't quite fully understand the front suspensions yet.
