Sorry but I'm kind of freaking out a little, my car won't start and it's night so I can't call anyone, I don't know what to do as this is my first car (and a manual to boot, so I'm not used to it), what forum should I post in for advice?

It's a 1993 toyota tacoma pickup, only 2 seats. I tried to start it up but it just makes a noise like it's struggling to turn on, and when I get out of the car it smells weird outside so I'm afraid I'm breaking it if I keep trying. It's been cold and when I tried to pop the hood it wouldn't move, I don't know if it's frozen or I'm just doing something wrong. I don't know where to even start.

Edit 1: Adding more information, I bought the car recently, last summer, and when I got it inspected then so I could get the A-OK sticker and everything they said everything was fine.

Edit 2: I've been away on holiday for a little while so it has been a few weeks since I drove it.

Sounds like a low battery. Since its a manual you can push start it. If you are on a hill, stay in car, get it rolling about 3 mph, turn key to on, push in clutch, put in 1st gear, pop the clutch. If not on a hill, your gonna need help. Maybe a jump start or someone to push while you try to push start it. Sometimes the battery struggles if it's real cold out. If you can't jump it, you'll need a mechanic.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Does it sound like the engine is cranking at all? What kind of noise are you hearing when you turn the key?

I'm guessing bad battery too, hopefully you can get a jump or can push start it like mentioned above.
