Which is why I like to regularly inspect and maintain stuff. With steel cable is easy to visually spot any weak point along the entire line. With good care and careful use, you shouldn't see rust for MANY years and its an easy and much cheaper replacement cost. I believe about 1/5 the cost of synthetic. Steel winch cable has been used for over 70 years and is still in active use today.

With synthetic, not so easy to inspect. Dirt and grit have a tendency to work its way into the fibers and into the core of the line. Much more closer visual inspection is required to determine compromised fibers. Also more susceptible to UV deterioration, chemicals, heat and abrasion, which is especially prevalent in our type of wheeling here in RC. Also, the synthetic line can hold water. In the winter, that equals ice.

Safety of course is always a primary concern for both steel and synthetic lines. Make sure you take all necessary measures to protect the operator and those people in the immediate area.

The reason I'm replacing this steel cable winch with a synthetic model is that it goes into my portable winch cradle, because I poached my cradle winch w/ synthetic line and installed it into my bumper. That steel cable + winch is HEAVY!

True. And the ability to pull yourself out backwards is nice. Would love to permane t mount a rear winch. Might be fun figuring out hiw to fit that and a hidden receiver in a HC bumper.

With BFF Rear HC bumper, I don't see a way to fab a permanent winch mount and keep the hidden receiver. Unless you lose some of that high clearance that I paid for.

I thought you might want it Ryan.
It should fit. It has the standard winch base bolt pattern.

    You have first dibs.

And you get the Subway$x$ special promo:

    1. If I know you and I've wheeled with you, then you can use my reverse layaway plan: Pay for half, take the item. Pay the other half within 6 weeks.
    2. If you've rescued me, recovered me (winch, snatch, tow, stacked rocks, hi-lifted) you can take the reverse layaway plan above AND an additional 5% off my prices.
    3. If you've screwed me like @maholacunto, you can send me $335 and I'll give you... nothing.
