yeah totally get it. it's still paying a shit ton of money for little added benefit. no increased articulation and the cross member is still super low..

Primarily people want drop bracket lifts for the looks of the height but over the years folks have relentlessly ragged on them as useless and having less ground clearance...even you just said it too - but you are completely wrong. A non drop bracket truck with a skid plate has less ground clearance than a drop bracket. Here is proof again - the top photo is my truck with a long travel kit and Pelfrybilt skids. See how the skid hangs down a couple of inches below the cam tab, Now look at the bottom photo of the Pro Comp drop bracket - the bottom of the drop bracket is even with the bottom of the cam.

i dont intend to rag, just curious. Still, that looks to be <1 inch of clearance gain. Wouldnt your main ground clearance gain be from the ability to run a larger tire and not the seemingly negligible lift on the skid?

I'll be honest buddy there are a couple of spots I like to go where I miss the higher crown clearance of the 6" lift. I couldn't do a body lift if I wanted too not even a 1". My shock towers and bed cage sandwich the bed itself so she taint movin a bit.

Funny ...you haven't updated your avatar to your actual vehicle which is a Honda Civic Mr. " I don't even own a Taco anymore " :stirthepot::wink:

Yeah I get that, I think you misunderstand what zip am saying. I am simply pointing out that tons of people rag on drop brackets because they supposedly negatively impact your ability to off-road because they have less ground clearance when in fact the drop bracket is not lower than a normal truck. Yes, regardless of lift type ground clearance is all about the parts that hang down the lowest from your frame and the only way to gain clearance is with bigger tires.

I just ran out to my garage and measured it, the skid sits 1-3/8" below the cam. That may not seem like a lot but that's the ground clearance equivalent difference of going from a 33" tire to a 35" tire.

Pretty soon I'll be startin my Silverado build thread. :anonymous:

And with the drop bracket, you still have the issue of skids for offroad. I'd rather hang a little lower and be fully protected...slide on over!!

I think the problem may simply be that you're on E rated tires in a much lighter truck now. UCA's will not do anything to soften up the ride, they only help you add caster which makes the steering feel less twitchy. Harsh ride feel is all about your springs, shocks and tires. Throw a set of OE wheels and tires on and take it for a drive...if that makes it feel " normal " then you'll know it is just your tires that are intended for a full size truck 50% + heavier.

Project drop the drop bracket was a success! The crossmember was patched by capping off the cuts and welding in a new crossmember out of 3x3 box tubing. An OME kit went in place of the procomp, and it rides SO much better now.

How does replacing the drop bracket with a true suspension lift raise the front differential back to its original elevation to the point you can re install original cross member? Planning on the same for my 6" db but I clearly have a little more research to do because I don't understand

After taking out the drop bracket, the stock differential hanger pieces and things like that need to be reinstalled. Then you can either weld in a piece of the stock crossmember or just fab up a new one. If you've got any other questions about the process, let me know.
