The bidding has begun at $1..... do we have $2? no?

The problem is he invested too much into it. The gearbox went on it about 2 years ago, and he spent the money on a fully rebuilt gearbox, regeared for wheeling.

 It's really just a lower 1st and second gear. 1st is a crawl, and second is a little taller than what 1st was originally.

Have a very faint whine that changes with RPM. Assuming I have a tensioner or idler going. Anyone have one fail on a 4.0 yet? I figure I have a while before I would have to worry from a "pulley failing and getting stranded" standpoint but obviously want to replace ASAP.

It's really easy to install yourself. That's the route most of us go.

A lot of places won't install stuff that u haven't bought through them, and most off-road shops only sell spacer/DB lifts

Anybody that has been around my truck when I start it will tell you how loud it is. I have been running my truck for 2 years with bad pulleys.
To this day everytime I see "DB" used to describe a lift kit I still read it as a douche bag lift. Lol

Ha! DB is right, The dude at Palmer Springs said theyd install their own AAL and have spacer lifts for the front, so if i wanted their AAL and spring lift i could just buy my own springs in when they did the AAL. this was via email. called in today....."SORRY NOPE!"

My truck is noisy when it's cold, goes clackity clack and ticks like crazy. Goes away after I drive a bit.

    Gotcha.
Our CJ came out of the factory gears that were plenty low. it had the old 232 inline six, with a 3 speed manual. You could hook it up to a rock sled and put it into low range & low gear, then get out and walk alongside it while you picked rocks out of the field and tossed them onto the sled. It'd just idle along at considerably less than walking speed, lol.

And top speed was probably 50. And it sounded like it was going to explode, too.

I replaced my idler and tensioner pulleys at around 80k miles I think it was. The idler pulley was easy, the tensioner is a PITA. The tensioner part number is the pulley and the spring loaded arm so, to replace it, you'd have to pull the A/C compressor which bolts to the tensioner arm's base. I opted to just yank the pulley from the new arm and just replace the pulley and not mess with the compressor and risk breaking a line.

Ha, good to know it probably won't blow up on me tomorrow then! I started to notice it a few days ago, but assumed it was due to the cold. Things tend to make more noise on the really cold days. But today I hear it and it's almost 50. Anyone who doesn't have a 4.0 Tacoma probably wouldn't think twice because it's barely noticeable.

I'm at 112k. I'd probably do the same thing with the tensioner. The arm still has plenty of spring so I don't see a need to replace the whole thing. There are three idlers (two different types) and a tensioner, right? Pretty simple to replace? Just unbolt the old one, bolt on the new one?

I'm thinking I know which pulley it is. When I replaced my serpentine belt, one idler felt like it had a tiny bit of resistance. Meant to replace it and forgot. The others all spun great. Bet that's the one that is making noise now.
