transmission fluid

I called a few local Toyota dealership in my area and all have differnet answers. They don't know shit apparently..can someone help me. I'm approaching 30,000 miles here pretty soon on my 05 tacoma. One of the dealership told me that it uses world standard tranmisson fluid and doesn't require service until 120,000 miles, wooow that's a long time. Make me think that my tranny might break down if i wait that long. The other told me it's type 4 because its an 05, and recommend service every 30,000 miles. So which one is it? From what i heard the world standard are in the new toyota's such as 08 and up tacoma. Am i wrong? Any 05 taco owner out there change their's at 30k and who change there's at 120k

 

Give parts dept guy your vin number and ask him to give you Tranny model. Come back post a model and we will tell you

 

You don't have to change it for a long time, 90,000-100,000 miles is the mark. It's a sealed transmission, and requires special equipment to change it out. Toyota recommends it be changed at 100,000 miles.

If It's a manual transmission, than every 25,000-30,000 is good time to change.

 

The 5 speed auto uses WS, the 4spd auto uses Type IV.

I wouldn't, and didn't, wait until 100K miles to change. And don't believe the "sealed transmission" mumbo jumbo. There are more drains and plugs in this transmission than most. How can something with more holes be considered sealed?

 

Don't be passing out wrong info. It isn't sealed, you don't need special tools to change the fluid, and the mileage interval has recently been changed to 60 K miles.

what brand of tranny fluid you guys recomend for a 2005 4.0L??

 

Most use the Toyota WS as its the only stuff recommended by Toyota. Amsoil and Mobil both have ATF products that they claim are compatible with Toyota WS. I stick to WS however due to the fact that if anything should happen to the transmission Toyota will require the service records. I'd rather use the Toyota WS than risk having to pay $4000 for a new AT should something go wrong.

OK so what is it guys the WS or type 4. Don't know what the model of the tranny is but its 4.0L V6 automatic transmission rwd prerunner

 

When changing the automatic transmission fluid, use only "Toyota Genuine ATF Type WS" to aid in assuring optimum transmission performance.

 

oks so everyone is recomending the toyata brand. So now the question is do it your self? or take it to toyota? and how much does the dealer charge for a flush

 

depends on the amount of fluid ,labor,and some use additives.i drain and fill mine every 15k,takes 3.2 quarts.

 

You didn't even read the link I posted for you did you? If you did, the answer to that question was in the first couple of paragraphs.

you just drain and fill? but what about a flush? i bought my truck with 70k and wanted to flush the tranny?
