Bed storage container ideas

Hard to explain. Actually the opposite - over bed storage. Haha.

After searching I found some Plano boxes that should work fine. I'll just have to build my rack to sit a little under the bed rail.

 

Everyone needs to look into military surplus storage lockboxes or containers. You'll only buy them once and they're far better than the plastic products you can buy now. The containers I have are very large but there are many smaller options half the size. Old ammunition boxes also work great and they come in many different sizes!

 

Sweet! Thanks man! This is going to be a big help when load up my truck for camping. I also have two huskies that sometimes ride in the back with the gear and I ratchet the crap out of everything so it can't move. If I can eliminate to ratchets with this bar, I'm set.

 

No worries, what I posted is meant to slide under the bed in your bedroom and so are wide and long but shallow. Figured they could work in the 11" clearance you mentioned.

I use 2 of these cheap sterilite containers. They fit side by side between the wheel wells and hold a ton of my camping gear.

 

I use the plano tote and just lock it up plus I drilled holes in the handle so I could run a cable lock through it to the d ring.

Smash and grabbers wont get it but if they have wire cutters im screwed.

 

I have a this. If I need additional storage for work or camping I go with Rubbermaid Action Packer's.

 

Can you link to the eBay if there's more than one? I found several sellers, but nothing that shows the legs/stands to hold a table top. thx

 

I use them Rubbermaid totes. Mostly because the tonneau cover leaks! Otherwise they fit pretty well

 

What's the brand name of this tool box? Where did you get it? I'm looking from something exactly like it.

 

I have one similar to this. It works great under my Tonneau.

 

The box is a Pro Tech. They vary well built, but they are expensive for a tool box. I got it from a company called Equipment Unlimited out of Sumner, Washington. You can not order it from Pro Tech it's self, you need to go through a retailer that caries them. Pro Tech shows them only available up to the 2015 model year, but it fits third gens just fine. I did need to mount it about a 1/4 of an inch off of the front of the bed to allow the lid to open all the way. Just be ready for a sticker shock. I can't remember for sure but I paid somewhere around $700 for this one. That being said they will out last most aluminum tool boxes on the market. I went through 2 better built boxes in 5 years. This is my second box from Pro Tech. The first one I have had for 13 years and is on it's second F250. Hope this helps.

 

Facebook made a new update on their mobile app that's like a market place (kinda like Craigslist). I scored a truck bed toolbox for $50 on there. Worth a look

 

Most definitely. Honestly, it your not hard on equipment (I am due to my job) then a Pro Tech may be more than you need.

 

i'm confused.... you bought a plastic container and put a metal lock on it? it seems like one could cut that little plastic tab with 2 snips from a pair of wire cutters.

 

I do the same thing.

It's not to prevent theft... it's just to deter thieves from an easy target.

I have my boxes ratchet strapped down while traveling with a lock.

 

Been using Rubbermaid action packers for over 20 years. Originally we used them for gear at the racetrack. Leathers, helmet and other riding gear so it never got misplaced. Later on we needed a solution at work because we swapped from one vehicle to the next depending on the job and equipment needed. It really sucked when your partner took your truck with your tools and gear and never said anything. We got action packers and never had an issue again. My stuff in my tote and off I go.

They take a sh kicking. I still have the original ones I bought 22 years back. Still functional and still taking abuse. No "seals" but the nesting of the lid has never leaked on me in all of these years. So in terms of price are they expensive? Yes but NO. Up front they aren't cheap. But how many totes last 20+ years of being thrown around, kicked around, sat on, stacked, stored, abused and generally treated like they are throwaway? Anything we need to last in terms of totes or needs to handle abuse goes in an action packer.

As far as locking they keep prying eyes out and work well with bungee cords to help secure them. If you want security why are you looking at plastic? On that note what metal is secure enough to take more than 5-10 seconds of serious thieving skills? At that point I would go back to my old Greenlee "job box" style box which is very secure.

For camping you just can't beat the Action Packer. I have decades of testing to prove it.

I had this in my Tacoma. Pretty stout- better than an old action packer I have that wouldn't fit in the narrow bed.
