$2100 a month he told me.
No clue how he's doing it.
He was crying when he realized how expensive just bills are when he got gas hookup and his first water bill
    in way over his head.

    Right...

He did say it was from a loan shark. But even at decent bank rate on a 360 month fixed for P&I it would be ~ $4k/mo. But maybe a ballon with...never mind.

I think he meant the 40k downpayment was from a loan shark. But still...sometimes fishy here

need to learn more about this stuff
this was what i was driving at 22. but not as nice of paint job. 1972 Dodge d100. three on the tree. loved that truck. would love to have one again as a "fixer upper/ cruise to the beach" truck. but living in an apartment, not in the cards. it was the last truck i owned. pushed me into getting a truck now. Getting that VW money and climbing into a taco in the next month or two once its done being built!

2100 a month would be for like a $300,000 mortgage.

Down payment was from the loan shark.
I'm guessing he got a co signer, and interest rates are low here.

No clue how he's doing it. Either way in way over his head
Maybe 2100 each from his girlfriend and him. Not sure. But went by his new place either he's not saying full details or lying about his payment no clue

Nice truck. Love the old Dodges. I've got this one as a work/plow truck now, and when I get my '69 fixed up and finished I'll probably be on the hunt for a '72-74 that I can restore & mod. And maybe drop a 340/4bbl into...

Eh I'm only 23, I'm paying 511/mo over 4 years. Put 5500 down, plan on paying the remaining balance of 10,000 at the end of 4yr lease.

A lot of this depends on your credit. Not that I have a lot more experience in this, but I am in a very similar situation life wise. GF and I split bills, rent, etc. Unfortunately, the trucks we like hold their value and cost a fair amount, even used.

With that said I paid $19,300 with tax and title for my rig. I put nothing down, and pay $314/mo. I plan on making bigger payments, so $400/mo plus I took a chunk of my tax return from last year and put it towards my payment so I am ahead.

Like previously mentioned, things can change quickly. My GF was laid off her job before Christmas so bills are more on me right now until she finds something new. Being ahead on my payments really relieves a lot of stress when life happens.

If you can get above a 750 your interest will be significantly lower.

Have you thought about a motorcycle instead of a new truck? Your old truck will last longer because you will only be driving it when the weather is bad, and motorcyles are cheaper than trucks and get better mpg's. Plus it will satisfy your desire to have something new without borrowing 30 grand. That's what I would do if I didn't have a wife and kids.

Also if you really need a newer truck and don't want to spend the money on a new one, used Frontiers are cheaper than used Tacomas. I know they haven't been updated in over 10 years and they had that issue with the coolant contaminating the transmission like 10 years ago but it seems like the ones from the early 2010s thru now are pretty reliable. If your heart is set on another Tacoma then you shouldn't settle but if you just need a newer truck and can save a few grand it may be worth it.
