Hey guys, so basically I'm in the market for a Tacoma.

I just moved to the US from Australia, and I am super excited to get a Tacoma as we can't get them in Australia.

So before I start shopping, a little help?

What models exactly are 4x4? I know I want 4x4, and I would like a locking dif standard so I can wait a while before buying an airlocker or something.

I know the TRD offroad comes with a locker (right?) and is 4x4, but what other models can I look for that have at least 4x4? and any other advice while shopping?

    Thanks!
    -Jesse

Not all TRD Tacomas are 4x4, up until 2016 TRD 4x2's were called Prerunners. Now theyre just 4x2s but both 4x4s and 4x2s can come with or without the TRD packages.

1995-2004 TRD Tacomas come with the diff locker (a few rare exceptions), 2005-present offers the TRD Sport and TRD Offroad. OR has the locker, Sport has a psuedo limited slip.

Best way to tell if a truck you're looking at online or otherwise is 4x4 is to check for the CV boots/axles, or the 4wd lever (95-04 Tacomas) or 4wd knob (2005-present) in the cab.

With the prices most Hiluxs are back home, I'd better get 2 tacomas ;)

TRD Sport can be 4wd without the e-locker. I opted for a sport and added my own air lockers later. Spent a little time in Bris', where you from?

Already got one! Thanks ;) TRD Sport with 4wd. Adding air lockers later.

Grew up on the beach of the central coast, about 2 hours north of sydney. Now living in Dallas... BIG change! :p
