Finally Getting Around To It Build

Not 100% sure exactly how i'm going to go about doing it but i'll probably end up folding the weld over and see if it clears and if it does cool, but if not i'll go a different route. Most likely tear into it tomorrow or the next day.

It's all good! I knew what you meant. I gotta admit, I do the same thing and learn a lot from what other members put on here!

 

Got around to doing a little trimming. Ended up cutting some of the wheel liner that covers the pinch weld, cuttting part of the fender flare and beating down the pinch weld and it clears. Not too much trimming but at full lock I get some rubbing on the frame so I might end up getting some wheel spacers from spider trax. So if anyone has any they want to sell let me know, I'd be interested!

Went up to Francis Marion national forest today to try out the new setup on some service roads. Found a spot to let the suspension flex a little. There's some rubbing here and there but for the most part I'm happy with it!

Damn dude you scored picking up that wrecked '01, that thing looks loaded with goodies. You going to install the bumper and winch? What kind of suspension does the wrecked one have?

 

Yeah that truck had a ton of stuff! As of now, i'm waiting for my blue sea fuse block to come in the mail so when I install the bumper, winch, and lights the wiring will be somewhat neater. So ya, whenever the fuse block gets here the bumper, winch, and lights are going on. Whenever I save some more money( or tax time) I will probably get the supercharger rebuilt/installed/buy the 7th injector and get it all installed at the same time. As for the wrecked 01, it had a 6 inch pro comp lift with 35" tires.

Just a little loose plastic in the wheel well whenever I go over a big bump but i can just trim it. No biggy.

 

Oh cool, I was worried you were gonna tell me that I was going to have to trim my whole fenderwell out when I run 285s lol

You should be good to run 285s. Only reason I need to do some more trimming is b/c the previous owner had an accident and replaced the passenger size fender so all the stuff in that fender isn't factory and doesn't line up perfectly. As for the backspacing on the TRD wheels i'm pretty sure they are 4.5 backspacing.

 

Yeah, I had the same issue. Camper shell, window tint, etc... They work great and I love them but the only thing I would recommend when installing them, is put in some LED resistors in the turn signals to get rid of hyper flash. Once I did that, no more hyper flash and had some bright backup lights! I got my resistors at Autozone for $20 but i'm sure you could find some cheaper on Ebay or something.

 

Wiring/electricity is certainly not my forte so help me understand this. Using LEDs for reverse bulbs made your blinker bulbs hyper flash?

 

Yeah, I thought it was weird too. Once it started hyper flashing, I originally spliced the resistors in with the reverse bulbs thinking that would fix it since that was they only thing I changed but it didn't fix it. After learning from that, I took the resistors out from the reverse bulbs and spliced them into the rear turn signal bulbs. Once connected to the turn signal bulbs, no more hyper flash. It was actually quite easy to install. The kit I bought had everything I needed. Connect one end with the positive and the other end with the negative and do that for both sides. Trust me i'm not too electrically inclined either.

 

I noticed on their site they have a set of resistors as an optional recommended item to pair with the bulbs. I'm going to do a little more reading, but you probably just cost me a few more dollars. Ha ha.

I've been debating something like this or mounting some flush mount pods in the bumper. I don't plant to keep the bumper so I'll probably steal this from you.

Anyway, suubbbddd!

 

Took the truck up to the mountains yesterday! Went up to Jocassee Gorge and they had some decent trails out there, nothing to difficult, just enough to see how the truck handles off road. Anyways, today my buddy and I both had the day off and got my front bumper put on! Still need to wire everything up but it looks great! I had to relocate the turn signals. Ended up cutting both the connections to both parking lights and turn signals and wired the turn signal wires to the parking light sockets. I left the parking light wires unattached for the moment (closed to the elements) until I can get some other light place to put the parking lights. After I wired up the turn signal bulbs I replaced the original white bulbs with some LED amber bulbs since the originals were pretty dim. Turn signals work great! Forgot that the truck I got the bumper off of had bent the bumper a little so I need to get it bent back sometime. Eventually I will relocate the washer fluid reservoir but it should be ok for now. No good pics of the install right now b/c it's dark out but here's a few pics! Enjoy!

Just need to get everything wired up, bumper straightened out and it should be good. After thinking about it I think I'm going to paint the TRD on the wheels silver since the red stands out too much and I want to paint the grill black or bed line it.

 

So, some things happened today! It was a beautiful day and I decided to color match my grille! It didn't come out perfectly but I'm happy with it. Had to get rid of the chrome, just stuck out too much. Also, my blue sea fuse block came in so I can clean up the wiring when I wire up the lights on the bumper. That will be a project for next week. Last night I wired up the LED pod lights to the parking lights and it was just way too bright! Disconnected them for now. Another thing I have to do is find somewhere to put the solenoid box for the winch. It's always something! Anyways here's some pics!
