Old news, just replace it if you don't have the updated part # before it becomes an issue, not hard and peace of mind is worth it alone...

Didn't know there was an updated part #. Was this a TSB?

At least 3 people with '17s have described similar behaviors recently which has me concerned. I didn't see any of them reply back to their threads with the resolutions though, so their issues could have been related to something else.

What CEL codes are people getting with a bad CPS? My truck was at the dealer for 3 days and they weren't able to recreate the problem so they said they couldn't fix it. I got codes P008700 and P160500.

They gave me the option for them to keep it and keep trying to recreate or for me to take it and bring it back when it happens again (which it will)

Its the best when they say they cant recreate it and then you pick it up and drive it around and the problem arises. Happens everytime it seems with me.

Yeah I know it's going to do it on my way to work tomorrow. I had the CPS problem in my Jeep. It started doing the same thing intermittently and then after a couple weeks it wouldn't even start.

It would be nice if they do post the end results as I thought they had the issue fixed for 2017s.

I looked at my work order to see if the scan code was noted. All I read was "many codes scanned, determined crankshaft sensor failure."

I think I'm going to just replace the sensor myself. I sent my buddy that works at a different Toyota dealer a copy of my service summary with the codes and he asked the shop foreman. He said they have had a handful and even had one currently in the shop for CPS failure. He said he's almost positive that's what my problem is.

I don't want to wait for it to happen again and I don't want to deal with the hassle of getting it towed back to the dealer.

I definitely would, also identify the sensor to make sure it's the updated and not old stock. -->https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-failure-in-2016s.442304/page-9#post-13606197

The last update for my 17' was that I had the CPS replaced despite it being the new part number. It was replaced since the symptoms were similar, but not exact. I didn't have any CEL codes when the dealer checked but I did have a flashing CEL when it happened. I've put about 700 miles on it since the part was replaced and no re-occurrence, but it took 3500 miles to happen when it did before.

Ordered a new sensor from Titus Will and got it in today. The issue with losing power never reoccurred after I got it back from the dealer but I figure better safe than sorry. Took about 20 mins to swap out, which is about 7 hours 40 minutes shorter than it took on my Jeep.

By the way I highly recommend @Titus_Will_Toyota for parts. Not only do they give you a TW discount but shipping is faster than Amazon Prime. Plus you get a nice autographed letter from Jordan- can't beat that for service.

Sounds like a safe bet to have swapped it out!
