    It's amazing that people doing the powder coat are newbies to the industry hired at just above minimum wage and don't have the proper experience.

    Had powder coat bubble a few times with clear powder coat.
    Other times you may get something we call "fish eye"
    Just make sure they have been long enough in the industry and they're willing to stand by their service.

    Primer, then Bedliner. Came out real nice. Textured non-slip finish.

    Get some quotes for sandblasting and powder coating. It's a much more durable finish. Chances are you'll never have to mess with it once it's done. And if you do, easy to fix up with spray paint. I've already had to do mine cause off road trip, no mud flaps. Nobody can tell.

    It should be but not always

    I had my wheels done and in order to get a good price the guy made me call around 15 companies and get each places process/steps to see what they offered and what their prices were. Basically I did all his research for him but man it was a good learning experience

    A good PC job should follow these steps;

    SandBlast (gives it something to bite into)
    degrease / powerwash
    dry completely (if not this is how the PC fisheyes)
    outgas (put in oven to let any gasses trapped in the metal escape-very important part and most places skip it)(most common reason for bubbling if skipped)
    2 coats of epoxy primer (also usually skipped)
    2 coats of color (most only do one)
    1 coat of PC clear (optional)

    Honestly most places I called just do this;

    Sandblast (only about 50% of them)
    degrease / rinse
    1 coat of PC color

    That's about it

    @ChadsPride - there might be a west coast / east coast difference here with regard to my opinion on powder coating. When me/my truck was in Seattle, I had powder coated side steps (not sliders) they were pristine for 3 years. When I moved to NY, the powder coating literally came off in sheets after rust found its way into any cut in the PC and started to grow like a cancer underneath the PC. I took those steps off within two years of being in NY because they rotted completely through.

    The northeast uses huge volumes of corrosive sand in the winter. Everything this stuff touches will turn to rust, unless there is decent protection. Hell... My frame rusted completely through in a few years of being in NY.

    I guess what I'm saying is that you may want to go the cheaper rattle can route, because it's pretty much guaranteed that you're gonna touch up/re-spray more frequently.

    My 2 cents.

    Thanks for the insight!

    I live in Austin Texas - Never see snow, not too close to the coast that its salty around here.

    I will probably end up rattle canning it.

    NP But with all that said and done. I am only going to spray mine myself like I do to my sliders. I find this primer to work VERY well. Then I just spray with the Duplicolor Truck bed coating in the products below
